Answer

The usage method of Octadecylamine polyoxyethylene ether AC-1812 varies depending on the application field. The recommended dosage is usually 0.5%~5% of the total system weight, and the specific amount should be determined through experiments based on process conditions and formula requirements.

Detailed Description

Octadecylamine polyoxyethylene ether AC-1812 (CAS: 26635-75-6) is a nonionic surfactant, appearing as a light yellow to yellow paste or viscous liquid. Its HLB value is about 13.5, with good water dispersibility and excellent emulsifying, dispersing, and antistatic properties. The product is in paste form at room temperature (melting point about 30~40°C). It is recommended to heat it to 40~50°C to melt or soften it before use for accurate weighing and uniform dispersion. Since the product has an active content of ≥99%, it can be added directly to the formula system or pre-dispersed into a solution of a certain concentration with warm water (40~60°C) before addition, which facilitates rapid and uniform distribution in the system.

Under acidic conditions, the tertiary amine group in AC-1812 will protonate and exhibit cationic characteristics. Therefore, if the formula requires its cationic functions (such as adsorption on negatively charged surfaces, antistatic properties), it is recommended to adjust the system pH to an acidic range (pH 4~6). Under neutral or alkaline conditions, the product mainly exhibits nonionic characteristics and has better compatibility with other nonionic and anionic auxiliaries. The product cloud point is ≥90°C (1% aqueous solution), providing excellent stability in high temperature high pressure dyeing processes.

AC-1812 is a low-foam product with moderate foaming performance, which is advantageous in processes requiring low foam. Its surface tension is about 30~35 mN\/m (25°C), and the critical micelle concentration (CMC) is about 0.01~0.1 g\/L (25°C), indicating that it can exert surface activity at low concentrations. In practical applications, the dosage should be calculated as a weight percentage of the formula system. It is recommended to start with a lower dosage and gradually optimize to achieve the most cost-effective effect.

Application Recommendations

Recommended reference dosages (based on total formula weight) for different application fields are as follows:

Application FieldRecommended DosageKey Usage Points
Textile high temperature high pressure leveling0.5%~2%Add directly to dye bath, or pre-disperse before addition; use in the same bath with disperse dyes
Synthetic fiber spinning oil5%~15%As one component of the oil, compounded with other smoothing agents and emulsifiers
Internal antistatic agent for plastics0.3%~2%Mix with resin pellets and extrude into granules, or directly process by injection\/blow molding
Metal cleaning and corrosion inhibition1%~5%Prepare cleaning working solution, used with acid washing or neutral cleaning processes
Pesticide emulsifier2%~8%Used to prepare emulsifiable concentrates or microemulsions; better effect when compounded with anionic emulsifiers
Leather fatliquoring and leveling0.5%~3%Add to fatliquoring agent or dyeing bath to improve leather feel and color uniformity
Paper deinking0.1%~0.5% (based on absolutely dry waste paper)Add to the deinking pulping section, synergizing with other deinking chemicals

Note: The above dosages are industry generic reference ranges. The actual optimal dosage should be determined through experiments based on specific raw materials, equipment, and process conditions. Guoli Chemical recommends conducting small-scale tests before launching new formulas or processes.

In water-based formulas, the following operation procedure is recommended: Heat an appropriate amount of deionized water to 50~60°C, slowly add the measured AC-1812 under stirring, stir for 15~30 minutes until completely dispersed and dissolved, then cool the solution for later use. If compounding with other surfactants, they can be added together during this process. In oil-based systems or plastic processing, the melted AC-1812 can be directly mixed with base oil or resin until uniform.

Precautions

  • Heating temperature control: The temperature should not exceed 80°C during melting to avoid local overheating that may cause color deepening or performance changes.
  • Application in acidic systems: If the product needs to exhibit cationic characteristics, first adjust the system to acidic, then add AC-1812 and stir to disperse, achieving the best antistatic and adsorption effects.
  • Moisture-proof storage: The product is slightly hygroscopic. After opening, reseal immediately to avoid moisture absorption affecting weighing accuracy and product quality. Under sealed, cool, and dry conditions, the shelf life is two years from the date of production.
  • Safety protection: It is recommended to wear protective gloves and goggles during operation to avoid direct contact with skin and eyes. For details, refer to the product safety data sheet.
