OP-7 octylphenol polyoxyethylene ether is a nonionic surfactant (HLB value approximately 11.7, cloud point 25~35°C). Its performance is significantly affected by factors such as temperature, electrolyte concentration, and compatible additives. When encountering problems, please investigate from the following aspects:
1. Poor emulsification effect or emulsion delamination: First, confirm whether the operating temperature is near or above the cloud point of OP-7. When the temperature is too high (>35°C), OP-7 will precipitate from water, become turbid, and its emulsifying power will drop sharply. Try lowering the operating temperature. Next, check whether the oil-water ratio is within the suitable range for OP-7, and whether it is necessary to use it in combination with other emulsifiers (such as surfactants with lower HLB values) to broaden the emulsification range. In addition, high water hardness or high electrolyte content may also affect emulsion stability.
2. Unsatisfactory cleaning/degreasing effect: Check whether the working fluid concentration is sufficient (recommended to start testing from 1~5g/L), and confirm whether the cleaning temperature reaches the optimal window. OP-7 performs better in alkaline systems (pH 9~12) for detergency. You can try adding appropriate amounts of soda ash, sodium tripolyphosphate, and other additives. If excessive foam affects spray cleaning, this is normal - although OP-7 is a low-foaming type, it may still foam under certain conditions. A small amount of organic silicone defoamer can be used.
3. Abnormal product appearance (turbidity, delamination, solidification): At low temperatures (<5°C), OP-7 may become turbid or even solidify. This is a physical change and does not affect quality. Simply allow it to slowly recover at room temperature and stir evenly. If turbidity or delamination occurs at room temperature, check for contamination or storage beyond the expiration date. This product has a shelf life of two years. Products beyond this period should be tested to confirm quality before use.
4. Precipitation or failure when compounded with other additives: Check whether the formulation contains high concentrations of anionic surfactants or strong electrolytes. Although OP-7 has good compatibility, phase separation may still occur under extreme ratios. It is recommended to conduct small-scale tests to investigate compatible materials one by one.
