OPP-10 is a general-purpose anionic surfactant. Before use, dilute it or add it directly to the formulation and stir to disperse. The recommended addition amount varies widely depending on the application field, generally between 0.1% and 8%.

Detailed Description

OPP-10 (Octylphenol polyoxyethylene ether phosphate) is a light yellow viscous liquid that is easily soluble in water and can be used directly at room temperature. There are usually two methods of use: one is to add it directly to the formulation system and mix it evenly with other components under stirring; the other is to pre-dilute it with a small amount of warm water into a solution of a certain concentration before adding it to the final system. Since the product has an effective content of ≥85% and a certain viscosity, fluidity may decrease at low temperatures in winter. It is recommended to operate at 15–30°C, or slightly preheat (not exceeding 40°C) before use to facilitate pouring and dispersion.

From the mechanism of action, OPP-10 contains both ether bonds and phosphate ester groups, providing dual functions of emulsification and penetration. Its critical micelle concentration (CMC) is approximately 200 mg/L, meaning it can significantly reduce surface tension at very low concentrations. Therefore, in practical use, good results can be achieved at low dosages. Excessive addition not only increases costs but may also cause excessive foaming or system stability issues. The specific dosage needs to be determined through gradient tests based on the interactions of other components in the formulation and the target performance.

Application Recommendations

Important Note: The following addition amounts are general reference ranges for various application fields in the industry and are not official recommended addition amounts from Guoli Chemical. The optimal dosage should be determined through gradient tests based on the specific formulation. Guoli Chemical's product database does not have official recommended addition amounts for each application field.

Application FieldReference Addition AmountUsage Method
Metalworking Fluids (Cutting Fluids/Grinding Fluids) 2%–8% (concentrate formulation) Add directly to base oil or water, stir to emulsify
Industrial and Hard Surface Cleaners 0.5%–3% (working solution) Compound with alkaline additives, chelating agents, etc., and dilute for use
Textile Dyeing and Finishing Aids (Scouring Agents/Antistatic Agents) 1–5 g/L (treatment bath) Prepare as a working solution for immersion or pad treatment
Pesticide Emulsifiers 2%–10% (formulation) Mix with pesticide active ingredient and solvent to prepare emulsifiable concentrate or emulsion in water
Personal Care Products (Emulsifying Solubilizers) 0.5%–3% (total formulation) Add to the aqueous phase to disperse fragrances or oily components
Emulsion Polymerization 0.5%–2% (based on monomer weight) Add during pre-emulsification stage, mix with monomers, and initiate polymerization
Leather Degreasing 0.5–2 g/L (working solution) Prepare as a degreasing bath for immersion or drum treatment
Wetting and Dispersing Agents for Coatings and Inks 0.1%–0.5% (total formulation) Add during the grinding stage to help disperse and stabilize pigments

Precautions

  • Compatibility: OPP-10 has good compatibility with various nonionic and anionic surfactants and auxiliaries, but should avoid direct contact with strong oxidizers and strong alkalis to prevent decomposition.
  • Dilution Sequence: When used in a compound system, it is recommended to add OPP-10 to the aqueous phase first and stir evenly before adding other components to achieve the best dispersion effect.
  • Safety Protection: This product is mildly irritating to the skin and eyes. Wear nitrile rubber gloves and chemical safety goggles during operation. The workplace should be well-ventilated to avoid inhaling vapors or fumes.
  • Storage Conditions: Store in a cool, ventilated place, with warehouse temperature not exceeding 30°C. Keep the container sealed, away from fire and heat sources. Low temperatures in winter may cause thickening, which is normal; slight warming can restore fluidity.
  • Environmental Handling: This product is highly toxic to aquatic life. Wastewater after use must not be discharged directly into any water body without treatment. Dispose of waste liquid according to local environmental regulations.
