OPP-10 (Octylphenol polyoxyethylene ether phosphate) is a light yellow viscous liquid that is easily soluble in water and can be used directly at room temperature. There are usually two methods of use: one is to add it directly to the formulation system and mix it evenly with other components under stirring; the other is to pre-dilute it with a small amount of warm water into a solution of a certain concentration before adding it to the final system. Since the product has an effective content of ≥85% and a certain viscosity, fluidity may decrease at low temperatures in winter. It is recommended to operate at 15–30°C, or slightly preheat (not exceeding 40°C) before use to facilitate pouring and dispersion.
From the mechanism of action, OPP-10 contains both ether bonds and phosphate ester groups, providing dual functions of emulsification and penetration. Its critical micelle concentration (CMC) is approximately 200 mg/L, meaning it can significantly reduce surface tension at very low concentrations. Therefore, in practical use, good results can be achieved at low dosages. Excessive addition not only increases costs but may also cause excessive foaming or system stability issues. The specific dosage needs to be determined through gradient tests based on the interactions of other components in the formulation and the target performance.
