Oleyl Alcohol Polyoxyethylene Ether OV-5 (INCI name: Oleth-5, CAS: 9004-98-2) is a nonionic surfactant obtained by the addition reaction of oleyl alcohol (octadecenol) with 5 moles of ethylene oxide. Its molecular formula is C18H35O(C2H4O)nH (n≈5), and it appears as a colorless to pale yellow transparent liquid. It is one of the core surfactant products of Guoli Chemical.
This product possesses excellent resistance to acids, alkalis, and hard water, maintaining high efficiency and stability even in complex chemical environments. With its unique unsaturated long-chain alkyl structure (iodine value 50~65 gI2/100g), OV-5 can significantly reduce oil-water interfacial tension, endowing formulations with superior high and low-temperature stability and a fine skin feel. It is an ideal emulsifier choice for preparing high-quality W/O creams, lotions, and sunscreen products.
In terms of safety, the acute oral toxicity LD50 of OV-5 is greater than 2000 mg/kg, classifying it as low-toxic, but it is irritating to skin and eyes (GHS Category 2). Appropriate personal protective equipment should be worn during handling. This product is harmful to aquatic life (H412) and should not be discharged freely into natural water bodies.

Industrial and Household Liquid Cleaners: With low surface tension (~30 mN/m) and excellent wetting and penetrating properties, it can significantly enhance the removal of oily soils, suitable for metal surface cleaning, hard surface cleaning, and various household liquid detergent formulations. Its HLB value of 9 makes it particularly suitable as an oil-soluble emulsifier component.
