How to use rapid penetrant, Quick T-50H?

Answer

Quick T-50H is a high-concentration anionic penetrant, typically used diluted to a working solution concentration of 0.1%~1.0%. The specific dosage depends on the application scenario and substrate characteristics.

Detailed Description

Rapid penetrant Quick T-50H (dioctyl sulfosuccinate sodium salt, DOSS) is a highly effective anionic surfactant with an active content of approximately 50% (solvent: water/alcohol mixture). At room temperature, it appears as a colorless to light yellow viscous liquid. Its core advantage lies in its extremely low surface tension (approximately 26-28 mN/m), imparting excellent rapid penetration and wetting/spreading ability, allowing it to quickly penetrate fibers, porous substrates, and tiny crevices.

When used, it is typically diluted with water to prepare a working solution. It is generally recommended to pre-dilute the product with a small amount of warm water (approximately 30-40°C) while stirring, then add it to the main solution and mix thoroughly. Due to the high viscosity of the product, direct addition may lead to uneven dispersion; therefore, a pre-dilution method is recommended. During preparation, avoid vigorous stirring to prevent excessive foaming; if necessary, a small amount of defoamer can be added.

This product performs best under neutral and mild acidic/alkaline conditions. It is not resistant to strong acids (pH<3) or strong bases (pH>10). Under strong acidic or alkaline conditions, the ester bond in the DOSS molecule may hydrolyze, leading to a significant decrease in penetration performance. Therefore, the pH of the working solution should be controlled within the range of 5-8.

Recommended Concentrations by Application Area

Application AreaRecommended Dosage (of working solution)Usage Method
Textile pretreatment (scouring/desizing)0.1%~0.5%Add to scouring or desizing bath, treat at 40~80°C
Textile dyeing/printing0.2%~1.0%Add to dye bath or printing paste to promote uniform dye penetration
Pesticide formulation enhancement0.05%~0.3% (spray liquid)Use as tank-mix adjuvant, add to pesticide solution and use immediately
Leather soaking/degreasing0.3%~0.8%Add to soaking or degreasing bath, operate at room temperature or with heating
Industrial cleaning/household cleaning0.1%~1.0%Blend into cleaning formulations for use

Application Recommendations

Textile dyeing and printing: In the pretreatment of cotton, linen, synthetic fibers, and their blends, Quick T-50H accelerates the penetration of chemicals such as alkali and hydrogen peroxide into the fiber, reducing processing time. In dyeing processes, it helps improve dye uptake and leveling, reducing color spots and shade variations. It is recommended to pre-dilute at approximately 40°C before adding to the treatment bath.

Pesticide formulations: As a wetting and penetration enhancer, Quick T-50H significantly reduces the surface tension of the spray solution, improving adhesion and spreading on hydrophobic plant leaves (e.g., rice, wheat), promoting penetration through stomata or cuticles. It is recommended as a tank-mix adjuvant, added to the pesticide solution at 0.05%~0.3% before spraying, and used immediately after preparation.

Leather processing: In the soaking process, it accelerates water penetration into dry hides, shortening rehydration time; in degreasing, it aids in emulsifying oils, improving degreasing efficiency. It is recommended to add 0.3%~0.5% (based on hide weight) during the main soaking stage.

Notes

  • Protective measures: Wear impermeable chemical protective gloves and goggles during operation to avoid direct contact with skin and eyes. This product may cause skin irritation and serious eye irritation.
  • pH control: Avoid use in strong acidic (pH<3) or strong alkaline (pH>10) environments to prevent ester bond hydrolysis leading to performance degradation.
  • Dissolution method: It is recommended to pre-dilute with warm water before adding to the main system to avoid uneven dispersion from direct addition of the viscous concentrate.
  • Foam control: This product has moderate foaming properties. Avoid vigorous stirring during preparation. In foam-sensitive processes, a defoamer can be used.
  • Storage conditions: Store sealed in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated place, away from direct sunlight, strong oxidizers, and acids.
  • Environmental protection: This product is toxic to aquatic organisms (96h LC₅₀ approximately 10–100 mg/L). Do not discharge waste liquid directly into water bodies; dispose of according to local regulations.
  • On-site testing: Due to variations in process conditions and water quality among plants, it is recommended to conduct small-scale trials before large-scale use to determine optimal dosage and process parameters.
