The main component of octadecyl polyoxyethylene ether AC-1830 is N-octadecyl polyoxyethylene amine (30EO), i.e., a fatty amine polyoxyethylene ether with octadecylamine (C18H39N) as the hydrophobic group grafted with about 30 ethylene oxide (EO) units, with an active content ≥99%.

Detailed description

Octadecyl polyoxyethylene ether AC-1830 (CAS number: 26635-75-6) is a nonionic surfactant produced by the addition polymerization of natural fatty amine—octadecylamine (also known as stearylamine) as the initiator with ethylene oxide (EO). Its average molecular formula can be expressed as C18H39N·(C2H4O)30 (or C78H159NO30), with an average molecular weight of approximately 1590. The tertiary amine content in the product is as high as ≥95%, reflecting its high purity structural characteristics.

From the chemical structure, the product molecule consists of two parts: the long-chain octadecyl group (C18) forms the hydrophobic tail, providing affinity for oils and non-polar substances; the polyoxyethylene chain segment (average 30 EO units) forms the hydrophilic head, endowing the product with excellent water solubility and interfacial activity. This unique "hydrophobic-hydrophilic" block structure gives it dual characteristics of nonionic and weakly cationic—it is mainly nonionic under neutral and alkaline conditions, while under acidic conditions the nitrogen atom can be protonated to exhibit weakly cationic features, thus having good adsorption capacity on negatively charged solid surfaces (such as fibers and metals).

The product appears as a light yellow to yellow paste or solid (melting point approximately 20-30°C), easily soluble in water and organic solvents, with an HLB value of approximately 16~17, cloud point >100°C (1% aqueous solution), belonging to typical hydrophilic nonionic surfactants.

Application suggestions

Based on the characteristics of its main components, AC-1830 is widely used in the following fields:

  • Textile printing and dyeing: Used as a leveling agent and antistatic agent, utilizing the synergistic effect of its weak cationic adsorption and nonionic dispersion to promote uniform dye uptake and eliminate static electricity on fibers
  • Pesticide formulations: As a highly effective nonionic emulsifier to stably emulsify and disperse oily active ingredients in water
  • Metalworking: Used as a component in corrosion inhibitors and lubricants, forming a protective film on metal surfaces
  • Daily chemicals: Used in fabric softeners and antistatic formulations
  • Industrial cleaning: Suitable for metal degreasing and hard surface cleaning, low foaming and easy to rinse

Precautions

This product has an active content ≥99%, belonging to high purity surfactant. It is recommended to wear protective gloves and goggles during operation, avoid direct contact with eyes and skin. Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated place, with storage temperature recommended ≤40°C, avoid freezing and high temperature environments. Keep away from strong oxidizers and fire sources.
