Degreasing powder AR-815 is a strongly alkaline compound cleaning agent. It needs to be proportionally prepared into an aqueous solution, and then used for cleaning metal drill bits and precision workpieces through immersion, ultrasonic, or spray methods. Strict protective measures must be taken throughout the operation.
Overview of Usage Method
Degreasing powder AR-815 (specialized cleaning powder for drill bits) is a strongly alkaline industrial cleaning agent designed for metal drill bits and precision parts. It removes heavy oil stains through three mechanisms: saponification, emulsification, and chelation dispersion. Its use must follow the core principle of "add powder to water, use cold water, stir to dissolve". When diluting, always slowly add the powder to a measured amount of cold water, never reverse the operation (adding water to dry powder) to prevent localized overheating and splashing injuries. Stir continuously until completely dissolved to obtain a milky white to transparent alkaline cleaning solution. This product is suitable for three mainstream industrial cleaning methods: immersion, ultrasonic, and spray.
After cleaning, the workpiece must be thoroughly rinsed with sufficient flowing clean water to remove residual alkali on the surface. If rust prevention is required, a water-soluble rust inhibitor can be applied after rinsing, or the workpiece can be dried immediately. When the working solution's cleaning power decreases due to saturation with oil stains during use, an appropriate amount of new powder can be added to maintain efficacy; when the solution becomes severely turbid, oil stains separate, or the cleaning effect significantly decreases, it should be drained and re-prepared.
Recommended Process Parameters
| Parameter | Recommended Range | Description (Data Source) |
| Use Concentration | 3%–8% (by weight) | Light oil stains recommend 3%–5%; heavy oil stains, carbon deposits, and sintered materials recommend 5%–8% (based on general application experience of industrial alkaline degreasers) |
| Working Solution pH | 12.0–13.5 (1% aqueous solution) | From Guoli Chemical Product Database |
| Working Temperature | Room temperature to 70°C | Ultrasonic\/Immersion: room temperature to 50°C; Spray: 50–70°C for better effect. Increasing temperature significantly improves degreasing rate (based on general characteristics of nonionic\/anionic surfactant compound systems) |
| Cleaning Time (Immersion) | 5–15 minutes | Adjust according to the degree of oil stain and temperature; for heavy sintered deposits, can be extended to 20–30 minutes (based on industrial cleaning process experience) |
| Cleaning Time (Ultrasonic) | 3–8 minutes | Ultrasonic cavitation accelerates penetration and peeling, suitable for precision tools and workpieces with complex grooves |
| Cleaning Time (Spray) | 2–5 minutes | Spray pressure recommended at 0.2–0.5 MPa, best effect with temperature above 50°C |
| Rinsing | Flowing clean water, 30 seconds to 2 minutes | Must be thoroughly rinsed until the surface is no longer slippery. Rinsing water temperature recommended at room temperature to 40°C |
Application Guide for Different Drill Bit Materials
- High-Speed Steel Drill Bits: Recommended 5%–6% concentration, ultrasonic or immersion method, treat at 50–60°C for 5–10 minutes. Effectively removes cutting oil, rust preventive grease, and metalworking fluid residues, ensuring the drill bit surface is clean and residue-free.
- Carbide Drill Bits: Recommended 5%–7% concentration, ultrasonic method is especially good, treat at room temperature to 50°C for 5–8 minutes. According to the characteristics of carbide, it quickly strips stubborn oil stains and grinding paste, keeping the cutting edge sharp.
- Tungsten Steel Drill Bits: Recommended 3%–5% concentration, immersion at room temperature or ultrasonic treatment for 3–8 minutes. Mild alkaline formula does not damage the tungsten steel matrix; after thoroughly removing oil stains and dirt, rinse promptly and thoroughly.
- Precision Bearings and Automotive Parts: Recommended 4%–6% concentration, spray or ultrasonic method, treat at 50–70°C for 3–10 minutes. Quickly removes rust preventive oil and processing grease, meeting high cleanliness assembly standards.
Safety and Operation Precautions
- This product is strongly alkaline (1% aqueous solution pH 12.0–13.5). Before operation, must wear alkali-resistant rubber gloves (nitrile rubber or neoprene, thickness ≥0.4mm), splash-proof safety goggles or full-face shield, and anti-corrosion work clothes. Wear a dust mask when handling powder.
- Dilution Rules: Slowly add the powder to cold water with continuous stirring; never reverse the operation. Do not use hot water to directly dissolve the powder to avoid violent exothermic splashing.
- Material Restrictions: Corrosive to aluminum, zinc, and their alloys; may release hydrogen gas. Prohibit use on such amphoteric metals. Cleaning tanks and pipelines should be made of stainless steel or alkali-resistant materials.
- No Mixing with Acids: Prohibit mixing with any acidic substances, as it will cause a violent neutralization reaction with significant heat release, potentially leading to dangerous splashing.
- Emergency Measures: Skin contact: immediately rinse with plenty of water for at least 20 minutes; eye contact: open eyelids and rinse with running water or saline for at least 15–20 minutes and seek emergency medical attention. If ingested, do not induce vomiting; immediately rinse mouth and seek medical attention.
- Wastewater Treatment: Cleaning waste liquid is highly alkaline and inhibits aquatic life. It must be neutralized and treated to meet local discharge standards before discharge; do not discharge directly into municipal sewage systems or natural water bodies.
- Storage: Store tightly sealed in a cool, dry, well-ventilated place, away from strong acids, peroxides, and active metals. The powder is easily moisture-absorbing; seal the packaging bag immediately after use.
