Degreasing powder AR-815 (a special cleaning powder for drill bits) is a strongly alkaline industrial cleaning agent compounded with sodium carbonate, sodium metasilicate pentahydrate, sodium tripolyphosphate, and special surfactants. The pH value of its 1% aqueous solution is as high as 12.0–13.5, making it a hazardous chemical (GHS05 Corrosive + GHS07 Health Hazard). Therefore, during use, personal protection and standardized operation are absolute red lines that must not be overlooked in any way.
When preparing the dilution, the principle of "powder into water, add slowly" must be remembered: slowly and in small amounts, add the powder to a pre-weighed amount of cold water while stirring continuously to aid dissolution. It is strictly forbidden to pour water directly into dry powder, as strong alkali will release heat of hydration upon contact with water, causing local high temperatures that lead to violent splashing and severe burns. In addition, this product is strictly prohibited from contact with strong acids, aluminum, zinc, amphoteric metals, and their alloys, as violent reactions or even hydrogen release may occur, posing safety hazards.
After cleaning the workpieces, they must be thoroughly rinsed with clean water to remove residual alkali solution, preventing alkali spots on the metal surface after drying that could affect subsequent processing. For precision cutting tools such as carbide drill bits and tungsten steel drill bits, it is recommended to control the soaking time. Rinse immediately with clean water after cleaning and dry quickly to avoid potential effects of prolonged alkali residue on the microscopic structure of the cutting edge.
| Protected Area | Equipment Requirement | Key Indicators |
|---|---|---|
| Eyes/Face | Sealed chemical splash goggles or full-face shield | Standard frame glasses cannot be used as a substitute |
| Hands | Alkali-resistant protective gloves (nitrile rubber or neoprene material) | Thickness ≥ 0.4mm; pay attention to permeation data and replacement cycle |
| Respiratory System | Dust/particulate mask or half-face respirator | Must be worn when dust or mist is generated |
| Body | Chemical-resistant long-sleeved work clothes, protective apron, and slip-resistant alkali-resistant safety shoes | Contaminated clothing must be washed before reuse |
Immediately remove all contaminated clothing and rinse with plenty of running water for at least 20 minutes. Do not use hot water. If redness, swelling, or burning persists, seek medical attention immediately.
Immediately open eyelids and flush with gentle flowing water or saline for at least 15–20 minutes, with frequent eye movements. If wearing contact lenses and easy to remove, carefully remove after 1–2 minutes of flushing, then continue flushing. Call for emergency assistance while flushing, and then have a doctor treat immediately. No delay is acceptable.
Move to fresh air quickly and keep airway clear. If breathing is difficult, trained personnel should administer artificial respiration or oxygen, and call for emergency medical help immediately.
Do not induce vomiting. Rinse mouth repeatedly with water. If conscious, give drinking water or milk. Immediately call poison control center or emergency medical services.
Before operation, ensure that emergency shower and eyewash stations are in usable condition. After work and before each meal, thoroughly wash hands, forearms, and face with water and mild soap. Post clearly visible hazardous chemical labels (GHS05, GHS07) and emergency response flow charts in the workplace. Used cleaning waste liquid must be neutralized to meet legal discharge standards before disposal; do not directly discharge into municipal sewers or natural water bodies.
