1. Unsatisfactory emulsification effect (emulsion layering, instability)
EL-12 is a nonionic O/W emulsifier with an HLB value at a medium to high level. If emulsion instability occurs, please check: whether the oil phase type matches the HLB value of EL-12 — mineral oils and animal/vegetable oils are usually well compatible, but for polar oil phases, it may be necessary to combine with a low-HLB emulsifier; the recommended dosage is generally 5%-15% of the oil phase weight; insufficient dosage can lead to inadequate emulsification; for the emulsification process, it is recommended to use the phase inversion method or the emulsifier-in-oil method. The homogenization speed and time also affect the emulsion particle size and stability.
2. Product becomes cloudy or layers at low temperatures
EL-12 may experience increased viscosity or slight cloudiness at low temperatures (below 10°C). This is a normal physical phenomenon for nonionic surfactants, related to the product's cloud point characteristics. Before use, warm the product to 20-35°C and stir evenly to restore its original state; this does not affect performance. The recommended storage temperature is 5-40°C.
3. Compatibility issues when mixing with other additives
The nonionic nature of EL-12 gives it broad compatibility, allowing it to be used with anionic, cationic, and nonionic additives. However, if abnormalities occur when compounding with high-concentration electrolytes or strong acid/base systems, check whether the system pH is within a suitable range; if necessary, conduct a small-scale compatibility test in advance.
4. Solubilization effect does not meet expectations
When used to solubilize fragrances or essential oils in cosmetic formulations, it is recommended that the ratio of EL-12 to the substance to be solubilized be at least 3:1. If necessary, appropriately increase the dosage or combine with short-chain alcohol co-solvents. During the solubilization process, stir slowly to avoid excessive bubble formation.

Application Recommendations
To minimize usage problems, it is recommended to conduct sufficient small-scale and pilot-scale verification before formal production. Recommended usage of EL-12 in various fields:
- Cosmetic emulsions: Recommended dosage 1%-5%, using a hot process; add EL-12 when the oil phase temperature is 70-75°C and pre-mix evenly.
- Agricultural emulsifiable concentrates/water-based emulsions: Recommended dosage 3%-8%, used with appropriate solvents; proceed to production only after passing dilution stability tests.
- Metalworking fluids: Recommended dosage 5%-15%, as the core component of emulsifying and lubricating parts.
- Industrial cleaning agents: Recommended dosage 2%-10%, used with alkaline additives or solvents to enhance degreasing performance.
Precautions
- Before use, be sure to consult the product safety data sheet (MSDS) and follow general industrial hygiene practices.
- It is recommended to wear protective gloves and safety goggles during operation to avoid prolonged direct contact.
- If the product accidentally splashes into the eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes and seek medical attention promptly.
