Lauric Acid Polyoxyethylene Ether LAE-9 is a nonionic surfactant synthesized by the condensation of lauric acid with ethylene oxide, possessing multiple functions such as efficient emulsification, solubilization, wetting, and dispersion.

Detailed Description

Lauric Acid Polyoxyethylene Ether LAE-9 (INCI name: PEG-9 Laurate, CAS number: 9004-81-3) is a high-performance nonionic surfactant produced by Haian Guoli Chemical Co., Ltd. Its molecular structure consists of a lipophilic lauric acid group and a hydrophilic polyoxyethylene chain (with an average degree of polymerization of 9) connected by an ester bond. This unique "amphiphilic" structure enables it to effectively reduce surface tension at the oil-water interface, thereby playing core roles such as emulsification and solubilization.

As a nonionic product, LAE-9 exhibits excellent chemical stability in acidic, alkaline, and hard water environments, and does not precipitate with calcium and magnesium ions in water like anionic surfactants. Moreover, it has good compatibility with anionic, cationic, and other nonionic surfactants for compounding, making it an ideal multifunctional auxiliary in industrial formulations.

In terms of applications, LAE-9 is widely used in fields such as personal care, household and industrial cleaning, textile printing and dyeing, pesticide formulations, metalworking fluids, and leather treatment. It can be used as an O/W emulsifier to build stable cream and lotion systems, as a solubilizer to make fragrances and oily components dissolve clearly in water-based transparent products, and it significantly enhances degreasing and defatting capabilities in industrial cleaning.

Application Recommendations

Personal Care Formulations: Used as an O/W emulsifier and solubilizer in creams, lotions, shampoos, and body washes. Recommended dosage is generally 1% to 5% of the formulation, depending on the oil phase content and system requirements. It can solubilize fragrances and lipophilic active ingredients into transparent water-based products for a clear appearance.

Liquid Detergents: Used as a wetting, penetrating, and emulsifying decontamination component in laundry detergents, dishwashing liquids, and industrial heavy-duty cleaning formulations. It effectively removes oil, sebum, and stubborn stains, suitable for high temperature and high alkali conditions.

Textile Auxiliaries: Acts as a leveling agent to promote uniform dye adsorption, preventing color spots and shade variation; also used as a softening finishing and antistatic component to improve fabric hand feel and eliminate static buildup.

Pesticide Formulations: Used as an environmentally friendly emulsifier in emulsifiable concentrates and microemulsion formulations, helping the pesticide active ingredient auto-emulsify and disperse, ensuring uniform application concentration and stable efficacy.

Metalworking & Industrial Cleaning: Provides lubrication, cooling, and emulsifying properties in cutting fluids and grinding fluids; rapidly strips and emulsifies heavy grease and carbon deposits in industrial hard surface cleaning formulations.

Leather & Synthetic Fibers: Serves as an emulsifying dispersion carrier for fatliquoring agents, allowing oils to penetrate evenly into leather fibers, enhancing softness and elasticity of finished leather; provides smoothness and cohesion in synthetic fiber finishes.

Precautions

  • Health Hazards: Harmful if swallowed (H302), causes skin irritation (H315), causes serious eye damage (H318). Always wear chemical safety goggles, impermeable gloves, and appropriate protective clothing during operation.
