MOA-23 (AEO-23) is a nonionic fatty alcohol polyoxyethylene ether with a high degree of polymerization. At room temperature, it appears as a white to slightly yellow waxy solid (melting point approximately 40~45°C). Before use, it must be melted by heating or dissolved in hot water, then mixed with other formulation components. With an HLB value of about 16.5, strong hydrophilicity, easy solubility in water, and a cloud point above 100°C, it is particularly suitable for high-temperature processes or formulations requiring high hydrophilic emulsifying power.
During use, it is recommended to first add MOA-23 alone into the kettle, stir and dissolve it with hot water at about 60~70°C to form a transparent and uniform liquid, then add other surfactants or auxiliaries. For liquid formulations such as laundry detergents and cleaning agents, it can be used synergistically with other anionic or amphoteric surfactants, typically added as an auxiliary emulsifier or solubilizer. In O/W cream systems for cosmetics, it should be added during the heating phase of the water phase to utilize its excellent emulsifying ability to form a stable and fine emulsion.
Since the product database does not provide absolute standard dosage formulations for various application fields, the following recommended dosages are based on product characteristics of Guoli Chemical and general industry practical experience. The optimal dosage should be determined through small-scale experiments during actual production.
| Application Field | Recommended Dosage (% of Total Formulation Weight) | Usage Description |
|---|---|---|
| Textile Dyeing Leveling Agent/Dispersant | 0.5% ~ 2.0% | Prevent dye aggregation, improve dyeing uniformity |
| Industrial Hard Surface Cleaner / Metal Degreaser | 2.0% ~ 8.0% | Combine with alkali agents and builders to exert strong emulsifying and degreasing effects |
| Household Detergents (Laundry Liquid/Laundry Powder) | 1.0% ~ 5.0% | Enhance detergency and control foam; note that it is a low-foam surfactant |
| Cosmetics and Personal Care O/W Emulsifier | 0.5% ~ 3.0% | As primary or auxiliary emulsifier for creams and lotions |
| Flavor/Essential Oil Solubilization | 3 ~ 5 times the oil phase amount | Utilize high HLB value to solubilize hydrophobic components |
| Leather Degreasing Agent | 1.0% ~ 4.0% | Effectively remove natural fats from raw hides |
| Paper Deinking Agent | 0.1% ~ 0.5% (based on oven-dried waste paper weight) | Separate and remove ink, improve pulp whiteness |
| Emulsion Polymerization Emulsifier | 1.5% ~ 3.0% (based on monomer weight) | Provide stable monomer emulsification to obtain uniform particle size emulsion |
※ The above dosages are common recommended ranges for similar domestic high-HLB AEO-type products, not fixed parameters from Guoli Chemical's product database. Final dosage must be verified through laboratory small-scale experiments.
MOA-23 exhibits excellent resistance to acids, alkalis, and hard water, allowing safe use in complex water conditions and harsh chemical environments. Its low-foam property is especially suitable for surface treatment processes requiring low or no foam (e.g., metal cleaning, paper deinking). Since the product has an active content ≥99%, actual usage efficiency is high, and the dosage can be reduced accordingly compared to low-active-content products. It is recommended to start from the lower end of the recommended range during initial formulation trials and gradually optimize to achieve the best effect.
In terms of compatibility, MOA-23, as a nonionic surfactant, has good compatibility with anionic (e.g., LAS, AES), cationic, and amphoteric surfactants. When compounded, it can produce significant synergistic effects and is commonly used to form composite detergent and emulsifier systems.
