OP-4 octylphenol polyoxyethylene ether is a nonionic surfactant with excellent water-in-oil (W/O) emulsification ability as its core performance. It exhibits outstanding chemical stability in acidic, alkaline, and hard water media, and has low foam characteristics, making it widely applicable in multiple industrial fields.
In pesticide formulations, OP-4 serves as a high-efficiency emulsifier component, improving the dispersion uniformity of organophosphorus and pyrethroid technical materials in water, enhancing the wetting and spreading ability of the spray liquid on plant leaves. In textile printing and dyeing, it is used both as a pretreatment penetrant to quickly promote the penetration of alkali and bleach liquids into fibers, and as a leveling agent in high-temperature and high-pressure dyeing to slow down the dye uptake rate and prevent uneven dyeing or color spots.
In the petroleum field, it is used for emulsification and viscosity reduction in oil displacement systems and as a pre-treatment for crude oil demulsification and dehydration. In industrial cleaning, it is used to formulate metal degreasers and hard surface cleaners. In leather processing, it is used for degreasing raw hides. In metalworking fluids, it acts as an emulsifier and lubricant. Additionally, OP-4 is a key intermediate for synthesizing anionic surfactants such as sulfate esters and sulfonates.
| Application Industry | Specific Process/Use | Functional Role |
|---|---|---|
| Pesticides | Formulation processing of emulsifiable concentrates, aqueous emulsions, etc. | Emulsifier, improves dispersion uniformity and wetting/spreading ability |
| Textile Printing and Dyeing | Pretreatment penetration, high-temperature and high-pressure dyeing | Penetrant, leveling agent |
| Petroleum Extraction and Processing | Oil displacement systems, crude oil demulsification and dehydration | Emulsification viscosity reducer, auxiliary emulsifier |
| Industrial and Domestic Cleaning | Metal degreasing, hard surface cleaning | Emulsifying and dispersing component |
| Leather Processing | Degreasing in liming, softening and other preparation stages | Degreaser |
| Metalworking | Cutting fluid, grinding fluid formulations | Emulsifier, lubricant |
| Surfactant Synthesis | Sulfonation, sulfation and other unit reactions | Synthesis intermediate (for preparing anionic products) |
OP-4 is particularly suitable for systems where the oil phase is the main component, and is recommended for formulations requiring W/O emulsification capability. Priority should be given in scenarios such as pesticide preparations, oil-based cleaners, and metalworking oils. Due to its low foam properties, it is also suitable for industrial processes with high foam control requirements. It is recommended to conduct small-scale tests before use to determine the optimal dosage.
