OP-4SA nonylphenol polyoxyethylene ether ammonium sulfate is a highly efficient surfactant with both nonionic and anionic characteristics, with an active ingredient content of ≥25% and an HLB value of approximately 13.5. In practical use, it is typically added directly to the formula system as an emulsifier, wetting and penetrating agent, or dispersant. The product should be thoroughly stirred before use. If turbidity or stratification occurs at low temperatures, it is a normal physical phenomenon. After warming to room temperature and stirring evenly, it can still be used normally without affecting product performance. After opening, it should be stored sealed to avoid prolonged exposure to air.
Since OP-4SA is a light yellow transparent liquid (active ingredient 25%~30%) with good water solubility and oil solubility, it can be directly added to the water phase or oil phase for stirring and dispersion. To improve dispersion efficiency and avoid local high concentration, it is recommended to add it gradually and stir evenly at an appropriate temperature (generally 20°C~40°C). In emulsion polymerization applications, it is recommended to use it in combination with other anionic or nonionic emulsifiers to achieve synergistic effects and better control of latex particle size and system stability.
It should be emphasized that different types of application systems have vastly different requirements for emulsifiers, influenced by factors such as monomer type, oil phase type, water hardness, pH conditions, and final product performance requirements. Therefore, the above dosage range is only a general industry reference, and the actual optimal dosage must be determined through systematic experiments. Guoli Chemical recommends conducting small-scale experiments before formal production to determine the specific dosage most suitable for your formula.
| Application Field | Recommended Dosage (% of total formula) | Usage Method |
|---|---|---|
| Emulsion Polymerization (Emulsifier) | 1.0%~4.0% | Recommended to compound with anionic or nonionic emulsifiers, add to the water phase and stir to disperse |
| Textile Auxiliaries (Wetting and Penetrating Agent) | 0.5%~3.0% | Directly added to the working solution, suitable for pretreatment scouring, dyeing leveling, etc. |
| Leather Treatment (Degreasing/Penetration) | 1.0%~5.0% | Added to soaking, degreasing, or tanning baths, used with mechanical action |
| Metalworking Fluids (Emulsifier) | 3.0%~10.0% | As a component of emulsified cutting fluid formulas, compounded with base oil and other additives |
| Industrial Cleaning (Surfactant) | 2.0%~8.0% | Used in hard surface cleaners and heavy-duty detergent formulas |
Note: The above dosage data are derived from chemical industry application experience. Specific dosages should be confirmed by experiments. Product active ingredient content ≥25% (database value).

1. Emulsion Polymerization: OP-4SA as a highly efficient anionic emulsifier, recommended dosage is 1.0%~4.0% of the total monomer amount. Its unique molecular structure combines the steric stabilization of nonionic segments with the electrostatic stabilization of anionic groups, providing excellent mechanical and chemical stability for systems such as styrene-acrylic, pure acrylic, and vinyl acetate-acrylic. It is recommended to be compounded with nonionic emulsifiers (such as OP series, fatty alcohol polyoxyethylene ether series) at a ratio of anionic:nonionic = 1:1~3:1 to achieve optimal synergistic effects and latex particle size control.
2. Textile and Leather Processing: When used as a wetting and penetrating agent, adding 0.5%~3.0% to the working solution can significantly reduce surface tension (surface tension of 1% aqueous solution is only 30~33 mN\/m), quickly wetting fiber or leather fiber surfaces. Its excellent alkali resistance (stable in ≤10% NaOH solution) makes it particularly suitable for strong alkaline environments such as cotton fabric alkaline scouring. The penetration power at 0.1% concentration has a canvas sedimentation time of no more than 20 seconds.
3. Metalworking Fluids and Industrial Cleaning: In cutting fluid or cleaning agent formulas, the dosage is usually 2.0%~10.0%, and it can be compounded with other surfactants, rust inhibitors, extreme pressure additives, etc. Its good hard water resistance and electrolyte compatibility ensure stable performance in complex formulations.
