OP-4SA nonylphenol ethoxylate ammonium sulfate is an anionic surfactant. According to the GHS (Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals), this product has three main hazards: skin irritation (H315), serious eye irritation (H319), and harmful to aquatic life with long lasting effects (H412). Improper protective measures during operation may lead to contact dermatitis or eye damage; if discharged into water bodies, the nonylphenol ethoxylate structure it contains has potential endocrine-disrupting effects, causing long-term negative impacts on the aquatic ecological environment.
In routine operations, it must be used in a well-ventilated area, with local exhaust ventilation provided when necessary. Operators should wear chemical-resistant gloves (e.g., nitrile rubber), protective clothing, safety goggles or face shields throughout the operation. Eating, drinking, and smoking are prohibited during operation. After work, hands and exposed skin should be thoroughly washed. The product should be kept away from incompatible materials such as strong oxidizers and strong acids, and containers should be tightly closed when not in use to prevent leakage.
For storage, the product should be kept in a cool, dry, well-ventilated warehouse, away from fire, heat sources, and direct sunlight. The storage temperature is recommended to be maintained between 5°C and 35°C, avoiding freezing. Suitable container materials include stainless steel, polyethylene, or polypropylene-lined materials. It should be stored separately from strong oxidizers, strong acids, and alkalis. The product has a shelf life of 12 months, and the integrity of the packaging should be regularly checked.
| Contact Type | Emergency Treatment Methods |
|---|---|
| Eye Contact | Immediately flush eyes with plenty of water or saline solution for at least 15 minutes, frequently lifting the upper and lower eyelids to ensure thorough rinsing; remove contact lenses after flushing and continue rinsing, then seek medical attention immediately. |
| Skin Contact | Remove contaminated clothing and shoes, wash the affected area with plenty of soap and water for at least 15 minutes; if irritation or rash occurs, seek medical attention; wash contaminated clothing before reuse. |
| Inhalation | Move the person to fresh air immediately, keep the airway clear and rest in a warm position; if discomfort occurs, call a poison control center or seek medical attention. |
| Spill Treatment | Evacuate non-essential personnel; emergency responders should wear full protective equipment; contain and absorb the spill with inert absorbent materials (e.g., sand, vermiculite), collect in sealed containers for disposal; prevent entry into drains, soil, or water bodies. |
Although this product is not easily flammable, heating or combustion may produce irritating and toxic fumes such as sulfur oxides and nitrogen oxides. For firefighting, use water spray, alcohol-resistant foam, dry chemical, or carbon dioxide. Firefighters must wear self-contained breathing apparatus and full protective gear. Heated containers should be cooled with water spray to prevent pressure build-up and rupture.
For waste disposal, as this product contains components harmful to aquatic life, it must not be mixed with household waste or directly discharged into soil or water bodies. Waste liquids and contaminated packaging should be handled by qualified hazardous waste disposal facilities in accordance with local environmental regulations. Contaminated packaging should not be discarded arbitrarily.
