Fast penetrating agent Fast T-40 is a high-performance anionic surfactant with sodium diisooctyl sulfosuccinate as the core component, CAS number 577-11-7. It is widely used in textile printing and dyeing, pesticide formulations, industrial cleaning, and other fields due to its ultra-fast penetration (≤5 seconds) and excellent stability against acids, alkalis, and hard water.
Detailed Description
Fast penetrating agent Fast T-40 (aliases: Penetrant T, Wetting Agent OT, Aerosol OT, AOT) is a professional-grade anionic surfactant produced by Haian Guoli Chemical Co., Ltd. Its full chemical name is sodium bis(2-ethylhexyl) sulfosuccinate, with molecular formula C₂₀H₃₇NaO₇S and molecular weight 444.56. The product appears as a colorless to light yellow transparent viscous liquid, easily soluble in water, with an effective active ingredient content of ≥40%.
Its core advantage lies in its excellent fast penetration performance—under standard tests, the penetration time is ≤5 seconds—combined with outstanding low surface tension (≤30 mN\/m) and low foam characteristics. Its HLB value is 12.4, and it exhibits excellent chemical stability in acidic, alkaline, and hard water systems. It is compatible with anionic, nonionic, and most cationic systems, offering great formulation flexibility. The critical micelle concentration (CMC) is approximately 0.1~0.4 g\/L, allowing significant wetting and penetration effects even at low dosages.
As a classic high-efficiency wetting and penetrating agent, Fast T-40 quickly reduces the surface tension of liquids, promoting deep penetration of the working solution into porous substrates such as fibers, paper, and leather, thereby significantly improving processing efficiency and product quality. The product has a saponification value of 252 mgKOH\/g, a pH of 5.0~7.0 for a 1% aqueous solution, a density of 1.03~1.08 g\/cm³, and a refractive index in the range of 1.415~1.420.

Application Recommendations
Fast T-40 is used across multiple industrial fields. The following are recommended application methods for each field:
- Textile Printing and Dyeing: Used in pretreatment scouring, bleaching, and dyeing processes. Recommended dosage is 0.1%~0.5% of the working solution, quickly reducing dye liquor surface tension and promoting uniform penetration of dyes into fibers, especially suitable for rapid processing of high-density fabrics such as cotton and polyester.
- Pesticide Formulations: As a wetting and spreading aid for wettable powders, suspensions, and aqueous solutions. Recommended addition is 1%~5% of the total formulation, significantly enhancing adhesion and spreading of the spray liquid on plant leaves, reducing runoff, and improving pesticide utilization.
- Daily Chemicals and Industrial Cleaning: In general-purpose cleaners and heavy-duty cleaning formulations, add 1%~3%. Utilize its strong penetrating power to strip stubborn oils from fabric surfaces and industrial part crevices, maintaining high cleaning efficiency even at low temperatures.
- Paper Industry: Used as a penetrating aid in sizing and coating processes. Recommended dosage is 0.05%~0.3% of the size or coating, promoting uniform penetration of the size into paper fibers, enhancing paper surface strength and printability.
- Leather Industry: In soaking, degreasing, and finishing processes, add 0.5%~2% to accelerate penetration of chemicals into the leather fiber deep layers, shorten rewetting time, and improve leather softness and uniformity.
Precautions
- Safety Protection: This product is classified as skin irritant (Category 2) and eye irritant (Category 2). Wear nitrile rubber protective gloves and splash-proof chemical safety goggles during operation. In case of skin contact, wash immediately with plenty of soap and water. If it enters the eyes, rinse with flowing clean water for at least 15 minutes and seek medical attention.
- Storage Conditions: Keep the container tightly sealed and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated warehouse. The temperature should be maintained between 5°C and 40°C, avoiding direct sunlight and drastic temperature fluctuations. Keep away from incompatible materials such as strong oxidizers, strong acids, and strong bases.
- Environmental Protection: Although this product has low aquatic toxicity and is readily biodegradable, avoid direct discharge of undiluted product into water bodies or soil.
