Question

How to store Polyether L-35? What is the shelf life?

Answer
2026-06-06 官方文档 聚醚L-35

Polyether L-35 should be stored sealed in a cool and dry place, with temperature maintained at 5℃~40℃. Under recommended storage conditions, the suggested shelf life is 1-2 years from the date of production.

Detailed Description

Polyether L-35 (CAS number: 68439-50-9) is a chemically stable nonionic surfactant. Its storage is relatively straightforward, but due to its certain hygroscopicity, special attention must be paid to moisture-proof sealing during storage. This product is not classified as a hazardous chemical; it is non-flammable and non-explosive, and can be safely stored under conventional industrial warehousing conditions. As long as basic storage specifications are followed, its excellent low-foaming wetting, emulsifying, and dispersing properties can be maintained for a long time.

Regarding shelf life, Polyether L-35 does not have a clear shelf life parameter in chemical product databases. According to the product characteristics of nonionic surfactants and industry practices, under unopened conditions and strictly following recommended storage conditions, the shelf life is typically 1-2 years from the date of production. For products beyond this period, it is recommended to inspect appearance, pH value, and cloud point and other key indicators before use. If no performance abnormalities are confirmed, they can still be used as appropriate.

Application Suggestions

To ensure optimal performance when using Polyether L-35, it is recommended to follow these operational requirements:

  • Withdrawal Principle: After each use, immediately seal the container to reduce contact time with air and prevent moisture absorption that could increase water content and affect product activity.
  • First In, First Out: Follow the first-in, first-out principle in warehouse management, prioritizing the use of earlier batch stocks.
  • Inspect Before Use: For products stored for a long time or nearing the end of the recommended shelf life, check whether the appearance is clear and transparent, and whether there is any layering or turbidity before use. If necessary, test key indicators such as pH (1% aqueous solution should be 5.0~7.5) and cloud point (1% aqueous solution should be 73~77℃).
  • Repackaging Caution: If repackaging is required, use clean and dry containers to avoid introducing moisture or impurities.

Precautions

  • Freeze Protection: The melting point is below 0℃, but freezing should be avoided. Thawing after freezing may cause structural changes and affect performance.
  • High Temperature Protection: Avoid prolonged exposure to high temperatures above 40℃, which may accelerate oxidation and discoloration, shortening the usable life.
  • Keep Away from Strong Oxidizers: The storage area should be isolated from strong oxidizers to prevent chemical reactions.
  • Do Not Reuse Containers: Empty containers must not be used for storing food or drinking water and should be disposed of properly according to regulations.
  • Shelf Life Note: The above 1-2 year shelf life recommendation is based on industry common experience, not a legal shelf life data from product databases. Guoli Chemical has not yet provided a specific shelf life limit for this product. It is recommended to refer to the product packaging label or factory inspection report for accuracy.
