Stearyl polyoxyethylene ether SG-9 (PEG-9 Stearate) is a nonionic surfactant produced by the addition reaction of stearic acid with ethylene oxide, with an HLB value of about 11~12, appearing as a white to slightly yellowish waxy solid. With its excellent emulsifying, dispersing, wetting, solubilizing and antistatic properties, this product plays a key role in many industrial fields. As a nonionic surfactant, it can be compounded with anionic, cationic and other nonionic surfactants, has wide compatibility, maintains stable performance over a broad pH range, and exhibits outstanding hard water resistance.
In formulation applications, SG-9 possesses multiple functions such as emulsifying, solubilizing, antistatic and softening, effectively reducing interfacial tension to form stable and fine emulsion systems, helping to simplify formulation design and achieve a "one agent, multiple uses" effect.
| Industry Field | Specific Process/Application | Functional Role |
|---|---|---|
| Textile Industry | Synthetic fiber spinning oils, finishing processes | Emulsifier, antistatic agent, softener, providing fibers with good bundling and smoothness, reducing friction and static accumulation, improving fabric hand feel and spinnability |
| Cosmetics & Personal Care | Creams, lotions, facial cleansers, shampoo and body wash products | O/W emulsifier and mild solubilizer, helping to build a stable emulsion system, imparting a soft, non-greasy skin feel to products |
| Metalworking Fluids | Emulsified cutting fluids, grinding fluids, hydraulic fluids | Emulsifier and lubricant, promoting dispersion of oil components in water, improving fluid stability, reducing tool wear, improving machined surface finish |
| Pesticide Formulations | Emulsifiable concentrates (EC), emulsions in water (EW), microemulsions (ME) | Emulsifier and dispersant, ensuring uniform dispersion of active ingredients, improving thermal storage stability and field dilution emulsification performance, ensuring efficacy |
| Plastics & Rubber Industry | Internal addition processing of polyolefins, PVC and other plastic products | Internal antistatic agent and slip agent, effectively reducing surface resistance, minimizing dust adsorption, also serving as a mold release aid |
| Coatings & Inks | Pigment paste preparation, emulsion polymerization | Pigment wetting dispersant and emulsion polymerization emulsifier, improving color paste development and storage stability, enhancing coating film leveling and gloss |
When using SG-9 in actual formulations, it is recommended to optimize the dosage based on the HLB requirement of the target system. Its HLB value is about 11~12, making it particularly suitable for O/W emulsion systems. In textile oils, it is usually compounded with other nonionic or anionic surfactants; in personal care products, it can be used as a primary or secondary emulsifier, with a recommended dosage of 1%~5% of the total formulation, which should be adjusted according to the type and proportion of the oil phase. In metalworking fluids, it is recommended to pre-mix SG-9 with the oil phase before adding water for dilution, to obtain the best emulsification and dispersion effect.
