Oleic Acid Polyoxyethylene Ester A-105 (CAS No.: 9004-96-0) is a non-ionic surfactant produced by addition polymerization of ethylene oxide with natural oleic acid as the raw material. Its molecular formula is C₁₈H₃₃O₂(C₂H₄O)nH (n≈10), with a molecular weight of approximately 700. The molecular structure contains both ester groups and polyoxyethylene chains, imparting unique amphiphilic properties to the product, exhibiting excellent interfacial activity in both aqueous and oil-phase systems.
The product appears as a light yellow to yellow liquid or paste, with an active ingredient content of ≥99%, classifying it as a high-purity surfactant. Its cloud point ranges from 72 to 76°C, with an HLB value of 10.5, placing it within the ideal HLB range for O/W (oil-in-water) emulsifiers. The product has low foam characteristics, a surface tension of approximately 30–32 mN/m, and a critical micelle concentration (CMC) of only 0.02–0.03 g/L, demonstrating excellent interfacial activity even at very low concentrations.
A-105 has good acid and alkali stability, maintaining chemical stability over a wide pH range, but it is noted as "not alkali-resistant," so caution should be exercised when using it under strong alkaline conditions. The product is insensitive to calcium and magnesium ions, showing excellent hard water resistance without precipitation or deactivation in hard water. Its flash point is greater than 150°C, classifying it as non-flammable, ensuring good storage and transportation safety.

With an HLB value of 10.5, A-105 is particularly suitable for oil-in-water (O/W) emulsifying systems. When adding to the total formulation, it is recommended to slowly add the oil phase to be emulsified into the aqueous phase containing A-105 under stirring conditions to fully utilize its emulsifying efficiency. Typical applications include: textile printing and dyeing pretreatment wetting and penetration (dosage 0.1%–0.5%), metalworking fluid emulsifying oils (dosage 5%–15%), pesticide emulsifiable concentrate emulsification (dosage 3%–10%), industrial cleaning agents (dosage 2%–8%), leather degreasing agents (dosage 1%–5%), and cosmetic creams and lotions (dosage 1%–3%), etc.
This product has broad compatibility and can be used in combination with anionic, cationic, and other non-ionic surfactants. The HLB value can be adjusted to meet the emulsification requirements of different oil phases. In the textile and industrial cleaning fields, it can be used synergistically with common auxiliaries such as Peregal O, TX-10, and JFC to enhance overall treatment effectiveness.
