Emulsifier FM (Triethanolamine Monooleate, CAS No. 2717-15-9) is a nonionic surfactant with good chemical stability and does not undergo violent reactions under normal conditions. However, according to GHS classification, this product is classified as Skin sensitization category 1 with hazard statement H317 – may cause an allergic skin reaction. Long-term or repeated exposure may lead to occupational skin sensitization. Therefore, personal protective measures during handling are the core safety requirement for using this product.
In practical application, the product appears as an amber to brown viscous liquid with a viscosity of 200–500 mPa·s and is hygroscopic. Avoid generating mist or vapor during operation, and do not eat, drink, or smoke in the workplace. Contaminated work clothes must not be removed from the work area. After operation, thoroughly wash hands, face, and any other exposed skin areas.

Emulsifier FM is widely used in metalworking fluids, cosmetic creams/lotions, textile softeners, pesticide emulsifiable concentrates, industrial cleaners, emulsion polymerization, and ink coatings. When used as an O/W emulsifier in formulations, it is recommended to adjust the dosage according to the oil phase type and desired emulsion stability, typically 1%~5% of the total system weight. Due to its nonionic nature, it can be compounded with anionic, cationic, and amphoteric surfactants, greatly enhancing formulation flexibility.
