Detailed Description

Emulsifier FM (Triethanolamine Monooleate, CAS No. 2717-15-9) is a nonionic surfactant with good chemical stability and does not undergo violent reactions under normal conditions. However, according to GHS classification, this product is classified as Skin sensitization category 1 with hazard statement H317 – may cause an allergic skin reaction. Long-term or repeated exposure may lead to occupational skin sensitization. Therefore, personal protective measures during handling are the core safety requirement for using this product.

In practical application, the product appears as an amber to brown viscous liquid with a viscosity of 200–500 mPa·s and is hygroscopic. Avoid generating mist or vapor during operation, and do not eat, drink, or smoke in the workplace. Contaminated work clothes must not be removed from the work area. After operation, thoroughly wash hands, face, and any other exposed skin areas.

Application Recommendations

Emulsifier FM is widely used in metalworking fluids, cosmetic creams/lotions, textile softeners, pesticide emulsifiable concentrates, industrial cleaners, emulsion polymerization, and ink coatings. When used as an O/W emulsifier in formulations, it is recommended to adjust the dosage according to the oil phase type and desired emulsion stability, typically 1%~5% of the total system weight. Due to its nonionic nature, it can be compounded with anionic, cationic, and amphoteric surfactants, greatly enhancing formulation flexibility.

Storage Precautions

  • Keep container tightly closed and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated warehouse.
  • Recommended storage temperature: 5~35℃, prevent freezing or overheating which may cause product deterioration.
  • Keep away from heat sources, sparks, and avoid direct sunlight.
  • Store separately from incompatible substances such as strong oxidizers and acids.

Handling Precautions

  • Wear qualified impermeable gloves (nitrile rubber gloves recommended) and protective clothing to avoid direct skin contact.
  • Use only in well-ventilated areas, avoid inhalation of vapors or mists.
  • Thoroughly wash hands, face, and any exposed skin after handling.
  • Contaminated protective equipment should be promptly cleaned or replaced and not removed from the work area.

Emergency Measures

  • Skin contact: Immediately remove contaminated clothing and wash with soap and plenty of running water for at least 15 minutes. If irritation or rash occurs, seek medical attention immediately.
  • Eye contact: Immediately flush with plenty of water or saline for at least 15 minutes. If irritation persists, seek medical attention.
  • Inhalation: Move to fresh air quickly, keep airway clear; if breathing is difficult, administer oxygen and seek medical attention.
  • Ingestion: Do not induce vomiting. Rinse mouth with water and seek medical attention immediately.
  • Spill disposal: Small spills: absorb with inert absorbent material (sand, vermiculite), collect and dispose of as hazardous waste. Large spills: dike to contain, prevent entry into sewers and water bodies.
