Emulsifier S-185/O-5 (fatty alcohol polyoxyethylene ether) is in paste form at room temperature (melting point approx. 30–35°C) and has poor flowability when directly charged. Recommended operation: first place the drum in a warm room or water bath at 35–40°C to preheat; once the material softens and becomes flowable, weigh and charge. If the formulation permits, it can also be pre‑dissolved in warm water (approx. 40–50°C) to prepare a 10%–20% stock solution, facilitating subsequent accurate metering and rapid dispersion.
This product is a nonionic surfactant with an HLB value as high as 16–17 and extremely strong hydrophilicity. It can be added directly to either the oil phase or the water phase. When used as an emulsifier, S-185/O-5 can first be uniformly mixed with the oil‑phase components, then the water phase is slowly added under stirring to achieve phase‑inversion emulsification; alternatively, it can be added directly to the water phase and then mixed with the oil phase. Its excellent resistance to acid, alkali, and hard water enables it to maintain stable emulsifying and dispersing effects over a wide pH range and under complex water quality conditions, without the need for additional chelating agents or stabilizing auxiliaries.

Pesticide formulations (EC, EW, ME): Recommended dosage 3%–10% of the total formulation. Better results are achieved when combined with anionic emulsifiers (e.g., calcium salts). Mix S-185/O-5 uniformly with the pesticide active ingredient and solvent to form the oil phase, then slowly add the water phase under high shear to obtain an emulsion formulation with fine droplet size and excellent stability.
Industrial hard‑surface cleaners: Recommended dosage 2%–8%. Can be compounded with nonionic or anionic surfactants (e.g., AEO-9, LAS, AES). Its outstanding alkali resistance makes it especially suitable for formulating high‑alkali powerful degreasing cleaners, delivering significant emulsifying and detaching effects on mineral oil and animal/vegetable grease.
Metalworking fluids: Recommended dosage 5%–15%, used as an emulsifier and lubricating component. Add S-185/O-5 to the base oil, then add water under stirring to form a stable semi‑translucent to milky emulsion. Its high HLB value promotes rapid self‑emulsification; the resulting emulsion has good stability and also provides certain lubricity and rust prevention.
Textile printing and dyeing auxiliaries: In scouring agents, recommended dosage 3%–8%, used as an emulsifying and dispersing component for oil stains; in levelling agents, recommended dosage 1%–5%, helping dyes to disperse evenly and retard. During preparation, it can be directly added to water, stirred to dissolve, then compounded with other auxiliaries.
Leather degreasing and fatliquoring agents: In the degreasing step, recommended dosage 2%–6%; in the fatliquoring step, recommended dosage 4%–10%, helping fat to emulsify evenly and penetrate, improving leather softness.
Coatings and printing inks: As a pigment wetting and dispersing agent, recommended dosage 1%–5% based on pigment weight. First dissolve S-185/O-5 in water, then add the pigment for grinding and dispersion, which significantly reduces system viscosity and improves storage stability.
