Emulsifier SG-100 is a nonionic high molecular weight surfactant, chemically known as Polyoxyethylene (100) Stearate (PEG-100 Stearate). It appears as a white to light yellow waxy solid, with excellent emulsifying, solubilizing and wetting properties, widely used in cosmetics, textiles, plastics, pesticides and other fields.

Detailed Description

Emulsifier SG-100 is a nonionic surfactant produced by esterification of stearic acid with polyethylene glycol (average polymerization degree of about 100). Its CAS number is 9004-99-3, molecular weight approximately 4670. The molecular structure contains a hydrophilic polyoxyethylene long chain (—(CH₂CH₂O)nH, n≈100) and a lipophilic stearic acid acyl group (C₁₇H₃₅CO—), endowing the product with extremely high hydrophilicity. The HLB value is as high as 18.5-19, cloud point exceeds 100°C, and it has excellent solubility and dispersion stability in water.

The product has a monoester content ≥90%, active substance content ≥99%, good chemical stability in the pH range of 3-8, and is resistant to acids, alkalis and hard water. Its low foaming property and nonionic nature make it highly compatible when formulated with other ionic or nonionic auxiliaries, and it will not precipitate or become deactivated due to calcium or magnesium ions in water. In addition, emulsifier SG-100 has very low toxicity (rat acute oral LD₅₀ > 5000 mg/kg), skin irritation index < 0.5, and excellent biodegradability (> 60% degradation in 28 days), meeting the requirements of green chemistry and sustainable development.

Emulsifier SG-100 is professionally produced by Haian Guoli Chemical Co., Ltd. (Guoli Chemical), packaged in 20 kg woven bags, with recommended storage temperature of 5°C to 40°C. The product melts into a flowable liquid at 50-55°C, and it can be melted by heating before use for convenient dosing.

Application Suggestions

Cosmetics and Personal Care: Used as O/W emulsifier and solubilizer for creams, lotions, sunscreens and other products, recommended dosage is usually 1%-5%. Its high HLB value can effectively construct a stable and fine oil-in-water emulsion system, while improving the dispersion uniformity and application feel of active ingredients, giving a refreshing and non-sticky skin feel.

Textile Industry: Used as a softener and antistatic agent, can be used alone or compounded with cationic softeners to impart a soft and smooth hand feel to fabrics, and significantly reduce static buildup caused by friction during processing of synthetic fibers, enhancing finishing effects and wearing comfort.

Plastics Industry: Used as an internal lubricant and antistatic agent in processing of PVC, polyolefins, etc., recommended addition amount is 0.1%-1%, effectively improving melt fluidity, reducing processing friction, and preventing dust adsorption on product surface due to static electricity.

Pesticide Formulations: Used as an emulsifier in emulsifiable concentrates, emulsions, etc., enabling highly dispersed oil-soluble active ingredients in water-based systems and forming stable emulsions, ensuring uniform coverage and efficacy during field spraying.

Precautions

  • The product is a waxy solid at room temperature. Before use, it is recommended to heat it to 55-60°C to completely melt it for accurate metering and feeding, avoiding local overheating that may cause ester bond hydrolysis.
  • Storage environment should be cool, dry and well-ventilated, with temperature controlled at 5°C to 40°C, avoiding direct sunlight and high temperature, and keeping away from strong oxidants, strong acids, strong alkalis and other incompatible materials.
  • When long-term or repeated contact is expected, wear nitrile or neoprene gloves. If splashing may occur, wear protective goggles. Wash hands thoroughly with soap and water after work.
  • Long-term use under strong acid (pH <3) or strong alkaline (pH >8) conditions may lead to ester bond hydrolysis; it is recommended to use within pH 3-8 to ensure optimal stability.
  • This product is a low-foaming surfactant. If high foaming performance is required in the formulation, it is recommended to compound with high-foaming surfactants.
  • Waste should be disposed of in accordance with local environmental regulations; high-temperature incineration is recommended. Do not discharge directly into drains or the environment.
