Emulsifier SG-100 is a nonionic O/W emulsifier (PEG-100 Stearate), mainly used as an emulsifying solubilizer for cosmetic creams and lotions, a textile softening and antistatic agent, a plastic internal lubricant, and a pesticide emulsifier.

Product Overview

Emulsifier SG-100 (CAS: 9004-99-3), chemical name Stearic Acid Polyoxyethylene (100) Ether, alias PEG-100 Stearate (Polyethylene Glycol (100) Monostearate), is a nonionic surfactant formed by the condensation of stearic acid with 100 moles of ethylene oxide. The product appears as a white to slightly yellowish waxy solid, with a melting point of approximately 50-55°C and a molecular weight of about 4670. It belongs to the nonionic type, with an HLB value as high as 18.5-19, exhibiting strong hydrophilicity. It is easily soluble in water, ethanol, acetone, and other organic solvents, and shows excellent chemical stability in weak acids, weak bases, and hard water.

Emulsifier SG-100 is produced by Haian Guoli Chemical Co., Ltd., with an active ingredient content of ≥99% and a monoester content of ≥90%, making it a high-purity polyethylene glycol fatty acid ester product. Thanks to its long EO chain segment structure (n≈100), this product possesses excellent emulsifying, wetting, and dispersing capabilities, with extremely low foam, playing a key role in various industrial formulations.

Main Uses

1. Cosmetics and Personal Care Products
As a classic O/W emulsifier and solubilizer, it is widely used in formulations of creams, lotions, sunscreens, etc. SG-100 helps form a stable and fine emulsion texture while enhancing the dispersion of active ingredients and improving the skin feel of the product, making application smoother and more comfortable. Its nonionic nature ensures good compatibility with various cosmetic raw materials, and its high HLB value makes it particularly suitable for formulating oil-in-water emulsion systems.

2. Textile Industry
Used as a softener and antistatic agent, it effectively imparts a soft and smooth hand feel to fabrics, significantly reduces the coefficient of friction between fibers, and minimizes static buildup, thereby improving textile processing efficiency and wearing comfort. It is also used in synthetic fiber lubricants to enhance fiber smoothness and bundling properties.

3. Plastics Industry
Acts as a dual-function additive serving as an internal lubricant and antistatic agent. During plastic processing (such as injection molding and extrusion), SG-100 improves melt flow, reduces processing friction, and prevents dust adsorption on plastic product surfaces due to static electricity, enhancing the appearance and user experience of the products.

4. Pesticide Formulations
Used as an emulsifier to highly disperse oil-soluble pesticide active ingredients in aqueous systems, forming stable emulsions. This ensures uniform coverage during field spraying, improving control efficacy. Its excellent hard water resistance enables it to maintain good emulsification stability under different water quality conditions.

Application Recommendations

  • Cosmetics Formulation: Recommended dosage is 1%-5% of the total formulation. It can be used as the primary emulsifier or combined with low-HLB emulsifiers to form a stable O/W emulsion system. It is recommended to add after melting the oil phase at 70-75°C and then mix with the water phase for emulsification.
  • Textile Softening Finish: Recommended dosage is 5-15 g/L of the finishing bath concentration. It can be combined with cationic softeners to enhance hand feel.
  • Plastic Processing: Recommended addition amount is 0.5%-2% of the resin weight. Mix directly with resin pellets before processing.
  • Pesticide Emulsification: Recommended dosage is 5%-10% of the oil phase. Combine with nonionic or anionic emulsifiers as needed.

Precautions

  • The product is non-toxic, non-irritating, and non-sensitizing. It is not classified as a hazardous chemical, but basic chemical handling procedures should still be followed. Wash hands thoroughly after operation.
  • It is recommended to store at 5°C to 40°C. The melting point is approximately 50-55°C; it is normal for the product to be solid under low temperatures. Heat appropriately to melt before use.
  • Avoid prolonged contact with strong acids, strong bases, or strong oxidizing agents to prevent hydrolysis of the ester bond, which could affect product performance.
  • The product is readily biodegradable (OECD 301 method, >60% degradation in 28 days) and environmentally friendly, but waste liquid must still be treated according to local regulations and must not be discharged directly into water bodies.
