Emulsifier SG-100, namely polyoxyethylene (100) stearate (PEG-100 Stearate), is a non-ionic surfactant, CAS No. 9004-99-3. Its appearance is a white to light yellow waxy solid, melting point about 50-55℃, slightly hygroscopic. The product has a molecular weight of about 4670, an excellent high molecular weight emulsifier, with the chemical formula C₁₇H₃₅COO(CH₂CH₂O)ₙH (where n≈100).
As a high-performance surfactant, the core advantage of SG-100 lies in its extremely high hydrophilicity, with an HLB value as high as 18.5-19, readily soluble in water, ethanol, acetone and other solvents. It exhibits excellent emulsifying, wetting and solubilizing abilities, effectively converting oil-water two-phase systems into stable emulsions, and shows good chemical stability in weak acid, weak alkali and hard water; ester bond hydrolysis may only occur under high-concentration strong acid or strong alkali conditions.
In terms of safety, Emulsifier SG-100 is not a hazardous chemical, featuring low toxicity, non-irritating, and readily biodegradable (28-day degradation rate > 60%). The acute oral toxicity LD₅₀ in rats is > 5000 mg/kg, classified as practically non-toxic. Its irritation to skin and eyes is extremely low, with no sensitization or genotoxicity, and low ecotoxicity (fish 96h LC₅₀ > 100 mg/L), fully meeting the high standards of modern industry for raw material safety and environmental friendliness.
