Emulsifier SG-100 is a nonionic surfactant with low toxicity and low irritation, which has no significant harm to the human body and the environment under normal use conditions. However, standard chemical operating procedures should still be followed, and personal protection and storage management should be properly implemented.

Detailed Description

Emulsifier SG-100 (PEG-100 Stearate) is a nonionic surfactant with high safety. It is not classified as a dangerous chemical and is not included in the "Catalogue of Hazardous Chemicals". Its acute oral LD₅₀ in rats is greater than 5000 mg/kg, which is practically non-toxic; the primary skin irritation index is less than 0.5, with no significant irritation; eye irritation is mild and reversible; no skin sensitization or genotoxicity. Nevertheless, as an industrial chemical, standard operating procedures should be followed during use to ensure safety.

During operation, ensure good ventilation in the work area. If the process allows, it is recommended to use a closed system for material transfer and feeding. For prolonged or repeated contact, it is recommended to wear gloves made of nitrile rubber or neoprene for protection. If there is a risk of splashing, wear protective goggles or a face shield. After operation, wash hands thoroughly with soap and water. Eating, drinking, or smoking is strictly prohibited during work.

This product is readily biodegradable (OECD 301 method, degradation rate > 60% in 28 days) and has low ecotoxicity (fish 96h LC₅₀ > 100 mg/L). However, leakage should still be prevented from entering sewers, surface water, and soil. Waste after use is recommended to be treated by high-temperature incineration with necessary exhaust gas purification devices, and direct discharge into the environment is strictly prohibited.

Application Suggestions

Cosmetics field: When used as an O/W emulsifier and solubilizer, it is recommended to pre-dissolve in the oil phase before mixing with the water phase for emulsification. The dosage is usually 1% to 5% of the total formula, depending on the formulation system. With a high HLB value, it is suitable for preparing light creams and lotions.

Textile field: When used as a softener and antistatic agent, it is recommended to prepare an emulsion at a certain concentration and apply to the fabric through padding or impregnation processes. The dosage is generally 0.5% to 3% of the fabric weight, which can give the fabric a soft and smooth feel and reduce static accumulation.

Plastics industry: When used as an internal lubricant, it can be added during the mixing stage. The recommended addition amount is 0.1% to 1% of the resin, which can effectively improve melt fluidity and prevent dust adsorption on the product surface.

Pesticide formulations: When used as an emulsifier, it is usually compounded with anionic emulsifiers, with a dosage of 5% to 15% of the active ingredient in the oil phase to ensure emulsion stability and field application effectiveness.

Precautions

  • Dissolution operation: SG-100 is a waxy solid. When used, it should be properly heated to melt (recommended water bath heating to 60°C~70°C) to avoid local overheating leading to product degradation.
  • Compatibility: This product is a nonionic surfactant and has good compatibility with anionic, cationic, and amphoteric surfactants. However, direct mixing should be avoided when coexisting with strong oxidizers, strong acids, and strong bases.
  • Storage requirements: The storage temperature should be maintained above the product's melting point to ensure good fluidity. Minor temperature cycles do not affect product quality. Keep away from incompatible materials such as strong oxidizers, strong acids, and strong bases.
  • Emergency treatment: In case of eye contact, immediately flush with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes; in case of skin contact, wash thoroughly with soap and water; if ingested, do not induce vomiting, seek medical attention immediately. For spills, absorb with inert absorbent material (such as vermiculite, dry sand) and collect for disposal.
  • Firefighting information: This product is not flammable, but combustion may produce carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, and irritating gases. When extinguishing a fire, wear a self-contained positive pressure respirator.
