MOA-3 (AEO-3) is a fatty alcohol polyoxyethylene ether nonionic surfactant with a low EO number (3EO). Its core feature is excellent W/O (water-in-oil) emulsifying ability, combined with outstanding wetting and penetration, high chemical stability, and an active content of up to 99% or more.

Detailed Description

MOA-3 (chemical name: C12-14 fatty alcohol polyoxyethylene (3) ether, CAS No.: 68439-50-9) is a high-purity nonionic surfactant produced by Guoli Chemical, appearing as a colorless to slightly yellow transparent liquid. Because its molecular structure has only 3 ethylene oxide (EO) units, its lipophilicity is significantly stronger than its hydrophilicity, thus it exhibits excellent W/O emulsifying ability—it can efficiently prepare stable water-in-oil emulsions with uniform droplet size and outstanding stability. This is the most notable feature distinguishing it from high-EO AEO products (such as AEO-7 and AEO-9).

In terms of wetting and dispersing properties, MOA-3 can rapidly reduce surface tension (surface tension is only 28–32 mN/m at 25°C), promoting liquid spreading on solid surfaces and uniform dispersion of solid particles. Its penetration power is moderate, meeting the needs of most industrial applications. Its chemical stability is excellent, resistant to acids, alkalis, and hard water, maintaining stable performance in complex formulations, and it has extremely low foam (low-foaming characteristic), making it very suitable for applications requiring rapid defoaming or low-foam operations.

The MOA-3 produced by Guoli Chemical has an active content ≥99%, free alcohol content controlled below 3.0%, moisture ≤1.0%, high product purity, outstanding usage efficiency, and can achieve ideal results with a small dosage, offering excellent economy. The HLB value is approximately 8, belonging to the lipophilic emulsifier category. The cloud point is below 20°C (1% aqueous solution). It disperses in a dispersed state in room-temperature water rather than completely dissolving, and is readily soluble in oils and organic solvents.

Application Suggestions

Based on the lipophilic properties and excellent W/O emulsifying ability of MOA-3, its main application areas include:

  • AES synthesis raw material: MOA-3 is the key intermediate for producing sodium fatty alcohol polyoxyethylene ether sulfate (AES), which is widely used in personal care products such as shampoos and shower gels.
  • Personal care intermediate: Used directly or after modification in formulations of shampoos, shower gels, facial cleansers, etc., providing mild cleansing and conditioning. Recommended dosage should be adjusted according to specific formulations.
  • Industrial and household liquid detergents: As a nonionic surfactant, it enhances the penetrating and detergency capabilities of products such as laundry liquids and hard surface cleaners, especially suitable for low-foam cleaning formulations.
  • Textile dyeing and finishing auxiliaries: Used as scouring agents, penetrating agents and leveling agents, helping to remove fiber impurities and promote uniform dye uptake. Its low-foaming characteristic makes it especially suitable for processes requiring foam control, such as jet dyeing.
  • Leather degreasing agent: Efficiently removes natural grease from raw hides, improving the quality of subsequent tanning and dyeing.
  • Metal cleaning and processing fluids: As an emulsifier and wetting agent in metal parts cleaners and cutting fluids, providing cleaning, anti-rust and lubricating functions.
  • Emulsion polymerization emulsifier: In emulsion polymerization systems such as acrylate and styrene, it stabilizes monomer droplets and controls particle size, ensuring smooth polymerization reactions.

Precautions

  • Safety warning: This product belongs to GHS07 category chemicals, with the signal word "Warning". It may cause skin irritation (H315) and serious eye irritation (H319). When handling, wear chemical safety goggles and chemical-resistant gloves such as nitrile rubber gloves, and avoid direct contact with skin and eyes.
  • Environmental requirements: Harmful to aquatic life with long lasting effects (H412). Do not discharge undiluted product directly into water bodies or drainage systems. Waste shall be disposed of by qualified professional agencies.
  • Storage conditions: Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated warehouse, with temperature maintained between 5°C and 35°C. Keep away from fire sources, heat sources and direct sunlight. Keep containers tightly closed. Under recommended storage conditions, the shelf life of unopened product is one year from the date of manufacture.
