The main component of MOA-9P laureth-9 phosphate is laureth-9 phosphate, with an effective active content of ≥95%, of which the monoester content is ≥80% and the diester content is ≤20%.

Detailed Description

MOA-9P laureth-9 phosphate (CAS number: 39464-66-9) is an anionic phosphate ester surfactant obtained by phosphating laureth-9 (AEO-9). Its molecular formula is C12-14H25-29O(C2H4O)nH (n≈9), with a molecular weight of approximately 650. The product appears as a colorless to light yellow transparent liquid, slightly hygroscopic, readily soluble in water, and possesses the dual characteristics of nonionic and anionic surfactants.

From a chemical composition perspective, this product is a mixture resulting from the phosphation reaction, mainly containing two types of components: monoalkyl phosphate and dialkyl phosphate. Monoalkyl phosphate (monoalkyl phosphate ester) is the primary active component, with a content of ≥80%, providing excellent emulsifying, wetting, and dispersing capabilities. Dialkyl phosphate content is ≤20%, which assists in adjusting the oil solubility and interfacial activity of the product. Additionally, the product contains small amounts of unreacted free phosphoric acid (≤2%) and free laureth-9 (≤3%).

It is worth noting that this product is actually a mixture of fatty alcohol polyoxyethylene ether phosphates with a carbon chain distribution ranging from C12 to C14. Therefore, its CAS registration number 39464-66-9 corresponds to the generic name "Laureth-9 Phosphate," which also reflects the common homolog distribution characteristics of phosphate ester surfactants.

Application Suggestions

Thanks to its excellent stability against acids, alkalis, and hard water, as well as its outstanding emulsifying, wetting, and dispersing properties, MOA-9P is widely used in the following areas: Personal care products (superfattening agent and emulsifier in high-end shampoos, body washes, and facial cleansers; recommended dosage 0.5%-3%), Textile industry (antistatic agent and softening finishing agent for synthetic fibers), Leather processing (fat-liquoring agent and penetrant), Metalworking fluids (extreme pressure lubricant and anti-rust additive), Pesticide formulations (emulsifying and dispersing agent for emulsifiable concentrates and aqueous emulsions), and Emulsion polymerization (polymerization emulsifier for acrylate and styrene-acrylic systems).

Precautions

  • This product is an acidic phosphate ester (pH of 1% aqueous solution: 1.5-3.0), which has moderate skin irritation and a serious risk of eye damage. When handling, chemical-resistant gloves, protective goggles, and protective clothing must be worn.
  • The chemical stability of the phosphate ester bond is generally weak; it is not resistant to strong acid or strong alkali environments and can easily hydrolyze under strong alkaline conditions. Attention must be paid to pH control during formulation.
  • Storage temperature is recommended to be controlled between 5°C and 35°C, with the container kept sealed and away from strong oxidizing agents and alkaline substances.
  • This product is readily biodegradable (degradation rate >80% in 28 days), but direct discharge into water bodies without treatment should still be avoided.
