MOA-9P (lauryl polyoxyethylene ether phosphate) is classified as a skin corrosive substance according to the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS). It is moderately irritating to the skin (rabbit skin irritation index PII 2.0 to 4.0) and can cause moderate to severe eye damage, including corneal injury. Therefore, strict personal protective measures must be taken during handling. The product has low acute toxicity (rat oral LD₅₀ > 2000 mg/kg) and is not sensitizing, but this should not be a reason to neglect protective measures.
During operation, wear chemical-resistant gloves, safety goggles, and protective clothing at all times to avoid any direct skin and eye contact. The workplace must be well-ventilated, and local exhaust ventilation should be used if necessary to prevent inhalation of vapors or mists. After handling, thoroughly wash hands and any other exposed areas, and regularly wash work clothes. Eating, drinking, and smoking are strictly prohibited in the work area to prevent accidental ingestion.
Additionally, MOA-9P should be kept away from heat sources, open flames, and incompatible materials such as strong oxidizers and strong acids. For storage, keep the ambient temperature between 5°C and 35°C, keep containers tightly sealed, and protect from light and moisture. The storage area should be equipped with spill containment facilities such as drip trays.
| Body Part | Protective Measure | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Hands | Chemical-resistant gloves | Prevent skin contact and avoid moderate irritation injury |
| Eyes | Safety goggles/face shield | Prevent severe eye damage and corneal injury |
| Body | Protective clothing | Avoid large-area skin contact |
| Respiratory | Ventilation/local exhaust | Prevent inhalation of vapors or mists |
Skin contact: Immediately remove contaminated clothing and flush skin with plenty of running water and soap for at least 15 minutes. Seek medical attention if irritation or burns occur.
Eye contact: Immediately lift the eyelids and rinse continuously with plenty of running water or saline for at least 15 minutes. Do not use eye ointments, and seek immediate medical attention. This is the most critical emergency treatment as the product can cause severe eye damage.
Inhalation: Move the affected person to fresh air immediately and maintain an open airway. If breathing is difficult, administer oxygen; if breathing stops, perform artificial respiration and seek medical attention.
Ingestion: Rinse mouth with water, do NOT induce vomiting, and seek medical attention immediately while showing the safety data sheet.
In case of a spill, immediately isolate the area and wear protective equipment. For small spills, cover with inert materials such as sand, earth, or vermiculite, collect in a sealed container; for large spills, contain and prevent entry into drains, soil, or water bodies. Foam can be used to suppress vapor. Collected waste should be disposed of as hazardous waste by a qualified professional unit and must not be discarded arbitrarily.
