MOA-9P is an anionic phosphate ester surfactant modified from laureth through phosphation, possessing both nonionic and anionic characteristics. It is widely used in personal care, textiles, metalworking, pesticide formulations, and emulsion polymerization.

Detailed Description

MOA-9P (CAS: 39464-66-9), chemical name Laureth Phosphate, also known as AEO-9 Phosphate, Lauryl Alcohol Polyoxyethylene (9) Ether Phosphate, etc. It appears as a colorless to light yellow transparent liquid, prepared by phosphation of laureth (AEO-9). Its molecular structure contains both polyoxyethylene ether segments (nonionic hydrophilic groups) and phosphate ester groups (anionic hydrophilic groups), thus combining the dual characteristics of nonionic and anionic surfactants.

This product exhibits excellent compatibility and functional synergy in various formulation systems. Its core advantages include: outstanding emulsifying properties for efficiently stabilizing oil-water interfaces; excellent wetting and dispersing ability to significantly reduce interfacial tension; remarkable stability against acids, alkalis, and hard water, maintaining activity without precipitation over a wide pH range and under high hardness water conditions; good foaming and foam stabilizing characteristics; and effective extreme-pressure lubrication, anti-rust, and corrosion inhibition functions in metalworking systems.

This product is slightly toxic (rat oral LD₅₀ > 2000 mg/kg), readily biodegradable (degradation rate > 80% in 28 days per OECD 301B), has low aquatic toxicity (zebrafish 96h LC₅₀ > 100 mg/L), and shows no bioaccumulation. However, it is moderately irritating to the skin and can cause severe eye damage; strict protective measures are required during handling.

Application Recommendations

Personal Care: Used as a superfatting agent and emulsifier in premium shampoos, body washes, facial cleansers, etc., providing mild cleansing and skin moisturizing effects. Recommended dosage depends on the formulation system.

Textile Industry: Serves as a key component in synthetic fiber lubricants, functioning as an antistatic agent and softener, effectively eliminating static electricity during fiber production and use, and imparting softness and smoothness to fabrics.

Leather Processing: Used as a fatliquoring agent and penetrant, assisting oil penetration and uniform distribution into leather, resulting in softer, fuller finished products while enhancing physical strength and water resistance.

Metalworking Fluids: Acts as an extreme-pressure lubricant additive and rust inhibitor in cutting fluids, grinding fluids, etc., providing efficient boundary lubrication protection, preventing rust on workpieces and machine surfaces, and extending tool life.

Pesticide Formulations: Used as an emulsifying and dispersing agent for preparing emulsifiable concentrates and oil-in-water emulsions, helping active ingredients disperse quickly and uniformly in water to form stable emulsions, ensuring field application effectiveness.

Emulsion Polymerization: Applied in emulsion polymerization systems such as acrylates and styrene-acrylics, stabilizing monomer droplets and polymer latex particles, and assisting in controlling particle size and reaction process.

Precautions

  • This product is moderately irritating to the skin and can cause severe eye damage. Wear chemically resistant gloves, safety goggles, and protective clothing during handling.
  • Ensure good ventilation in the work area; avoid inhaling vapors or mists. Use local exhaust ventilation if necessary.
  • Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated warehouse at a temperature between 5°C and 35°C. Keep containers tightly closed and protect from direct sunlight.
  • Keep away from strong oxidizers, strong acids, alkalis, and other incompatible materials.
  • In case of skin contact, wash immediately with plenty of running water and soap for at least 15 minutes. For eye contact, rinse continuously for at least 15 minutes and seek medical attention immediately.
  • Dispose of waste in accordance with local environmental regulations, and entrust to a qualified professional waste treatment facility for harmless treatment; do not dump or discharge into water bodies.
