Peregal O-15 is a high-performance nonionic surfactant, chemically known as fatty alcohol polyoxyethylene (15) ether, which is widely used in various industrial fields such as textile, cleaning, cosmetics, and pesticides due to its excellent emulsifying, wetting, and leveling capabilities.

Detailed Description

Peregal O-15 (CAS No.: 68439-49-6) is a classic nonionic surfactant produced by Guoli Chemical, also known as AEO-15, Emulsifier O-15, Leveling Agent O-15, Peregal O-15. Its molecular structure is an adduct of C16-18 fatty alcohol with 15 moles of ethylene oxide, with a molecular weight of about 800. The product appears as a white to slightly yellowish paste or solid, with a softening point of about 40-45°C. It is readily soluble in water, ethanol, acetone, and other organic solvents, and belongs to the low-foaming surfactant category.

The core advantage of this product lies in its outstanding oil-in-water (O/W) emulsifying performance, with an HLB value as high as 14.5, which can effectively stabilize emulsion systems and impart a fine and uniform texture to end products. At the same time, Peregal O-15 possesses excellent wetting and spreading properties, significantly reducing the surface tension of liquids (approx. 33 mN/m) and rapidly spreading on substrate surfaces. It exhibits remarkable chemical stability, resistant to acid, alkali (tolerating 200 g/L NaOH), and hard water, and can be well compounded with nonionic, anionic, cationic, and zwitterionic auxiliaries, making it an indispensable core component in many formulation systems.

As a high-purity active product (active content ≥99%), Peregal O-15 has a high solids content and low free alcohol content (≤1%), ensuring cost-effectiveness and performance reliability in formulation design. Its cloud point ranges from 80-90°C, making it especially suitable for medium-to-high temperature processes. According to toxicological data, the acute oral LD50 in rats is >2000 mg/kg, classifying it as a low-toxicity chemical; however, attention should still be paid to its skin and eye irritation during use.

Application Suggestions

With its high HLB value and excellent emulsifying ability, Peregal O-15 performs outstandingly in the following areas:

  • Textile Dyeing: As an efficient leveling agent and emulsifier, it is recommended for the dyeing process of various fibers and their blended fabrics, improving dye penetration and uniformity, preventing color streaking and spotting. Recommended usage is 0.5-2 g/L based on the working solution. It can also be used as an emulsifying and dispersing auxiliary in pre-treatment and finishing processes.
  • Industrial Hard Surface Cleaning: As a core raw material for powerful degreasers, it has good emulsifying and removal capabilities for mineral oils and animal/vegetable fats, suitable for medium-to-high temperature cleaning environments (60-80°C). Recommended addition in cleaning formulations is 2-8%.
  • Cosmetic Creams and Lotions: As an O/W emulsifier, it is suitable for preparing creams, lotions, sunscreens, and skincare products, with a recommended usage of 1-5%. It can also be used for solubilizing fragrances and essential oils in aqueous formulations.
  • Pesticide Formulations: In emulsifiable concentrates and water emulsions, it serves as an emulsifier, effectively improving the spontaneous emulsifiability and dispersibility of the solution in water. Recommended usage is 3-10%.
  • Leather Processing: Used in the soaking and degreasing stages, with a recommended usage of 0.5-2 g/L, it can rapidly wet the hide and promote the emulsification and removal of natural fats.
  • Paints and Inks: As a wetting and dispersing aid, recommended usage is 0.2-1% based on the amount of pigments and fillers. It can reduce system surface tension, preventing floating, flooding, and sedimentation.

Precautions

  • GHS Classification: This product is classified as Skin Irritation Category 2, Serious Eye Irritation Category 2A, with the signal word "Warning". During handling, wear protective gloves, protective clothing, eye protection/mask (P280).
  • Emergency Measures: IF IN EYES: Rinse cautiously with water for several minutes. Remove contact lenses, if present and easy to do. Continue rinsing (P305+P351+P338). If eye irritation persists: Get medical advice/attention (P337+P313). After skin contact, wash thoroughly with plenty of soap and water.
  • Storage Conditions: Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated warehouse. Keep container tightly closed. Keep away from fire sources and heat. Avoid mixed storage with strong oxidizers, strong acids, and strong bases.
  • Environmental Protection: Hazardous to the aquatic life with long lasting effects (H412). Do not discharge the product or its containers directly into sewers, surface waters, or groundwater. Dispose of waste in accordance with local regulations (P501).
  • Handling Recommendations: Operate in a well-ventilated area. Wash exposed skin thoroughly after handling. Although the product does not exhibit significant flammability or explosiveness, sources of ignition and heat should still be avoided.
