Peregal O-15 is a white to slightly yellowish paste/solid nonionic surfactant, easily soluble in water. Different dissolution methods and dosage ratios should be adopted according to specific application scenarios.

Detailed Description

Peregal O-15 (fatty alcohol polyoxyethylene (15) ether, CAS No.: 68439-49-6) is a white to slightly yellowish paste or solid at room temperature, with a softening point of 40-45°C. Due to its high HLB value of 14.5 and strong hydrophilicity, it is an oil-in-water (O/W) emulsifier, easily soluble in water. It can be directly added to warm water (50-60°C) and dissolved with stirring, or pre-dispersed with a small amount of ethanol or hot water before dilution. The product has an active content ≥99%, a 1% aqueous solution pH of 5.0-7.0, is low-foaming, resistant to hard water, and can tolerate sodium hydroxide solution up to 200g/L.

Basic operating procedure: Add the calculated amount of Peregal O-15 to preheated deionized water or process water, stir at 50-60°C until completely dissolved to form a clear or slightly opalescent solution, then add other components in the formula order. For high-viscosity paste-like products, it is recommended to cut them into small pieces before adding to warm water to accelerate dissolution. When used as an emulsifier, usually dissolve Peregal O-15 in the water phase first, then slowly add the oil phase to the water phase with high-speed homogenization emulsification.

This product is a low-toxicity chemical, but it causes skin irritation and serious eye irritation (GHS classification: Skin Irritation Category 2, Eye Damage Category 2A). During operation, wear protective gloves, protective clothing and protective goggles, operate in a well-ventilated area, and avoid direct contact with skin and eyes. After use, thoroughly wash exposed skin. The product is harmful to aquatic life with long-lasting effects (H412). Wastewater containing this product must not be directly discharged into water bodies.

Application Recommendations

1. Textile dyeing leveling/emulsifying: Recommended dosage is 0.2%-1.0% of the dyebath mass (approximately 0.5-2.0 g/L based on fabric weight). In the dyeing process, first dissolve Peregal O-15 in warm water at 40-50°C to make a 5%-10% stock solution, then add it to the dyebath for uniform circulation before adding dyes. For pretreatment scouring, it can be used in the same bath with alkaline agents (such as caustic soda, soda ash), utilizing its excellent alkali resistance (tolerates 200g/L NaOH) and penetrating/emulsifying ability to remove natural waxes and impurities from cotton fibers.

2. Industrial hard surface cleaning and degreasing: Recommended addition of 1%-5% (by mass) in cleaning formulations. Combine Peregal O-15 with alkaline builders (such as sodium hydroxide, sodium silicate, etc.) and chelating agents, and use under medium to high temperature conditions of 60-80°C for the best effect, with strong emulsifying and removing power for mineral oils and animal/vegetable oils. Suitable for cleaning food processing equipment, metal parts, etc.

3. Cosmetic cream/lotion preparation: As an O/W emulsifier, recommended dosage is 2%-5% of the total formula. Dissolve Peregal O-15 in the water phase (60-70°C), heat the oil phase to a similar temperature and slowly add to the water phase, homogenize at high speed and then cool. Its HLB value of 14.5 is suitable for preparing light lotions and creams, and it can also be used for solubilizing fragrances and essential oils in aqueous formulations, with recommended solubilizing amount 3-5 times the amount of fragrance.

4. Pesticide emulsifiable concentrates/aqueous emulsions: Recommended dosage is 3%-8% of the total formulation. When preparing pesticide ECs, mix Peregal O-15 uniformly with the technical pesticide and solvents. This product can effectively improve the spontaneous emulsification and dispersibility of the liquid in water. It is recommended to use in combination with other emulsifiers of lower HLB values to obtain a broader emulsification adaptation range.

5. Leather degreasing and soaking: Recommended dosage is 0.3%-1.0% of the hide weight. In the soaking process, dissolve Peregal O-15 in water and add to the drum to help wet the hide quickly and promote the emulsification and removal of natural fats. In degreasing, it can be combined with nonionic or anionic surfactants.

6. Paper rewetting treatment: Recommended to prepare a 0.1%-0.5% aqueous solution, applied to the paper surface by coating or spraying, which can significantly improve hydrophilicity, water absorption speed and soft hand feel.

7. Wetting and dispersing in coatings and inks: Recommended dosage is 0.2%-1.0% based on pigment/filler mass. Added during the grinding/dispersing stage, it can effectively reduce the surface tension of the system, promote rapid wetting and stable dispersion of pigments and fillers, and prevent floating, flooding and sedimentation.

Notes

  • Dissolution operation: The softening point of the product is 40-45°C, it is recommended to use warm water at 50-60°C for dissolution, stirring thoroughly until completely dispersed. Cutting into small pieces can accelerate dissolution. Avoid prolonged heating above 90°C to prevent approaching the cloud point and causing decreased solubility.
  • Personal protection: During operation, protective gloves, protective goggles and protective clothing must be worn (meeting GHS P280 precautionary requirements). In case of skin contact, immediately wash with plenty of soap and water; if splashed into eyes, rinse continuously with running water for at least 15 minutes and seek medical attention.
  • Storage conditions: Keep sealed and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated warehouse, away from fire sources and heat, separate from oxidizers and strong acids. Packing specifications include 50kg plastic drums, 200kg plastic drums and IBC totes.
  • Environmental treatment: Wastewater containing this product must not be directly discharged into water bodies (harmful to aquatic life, H412), and should be disposed of according to local/regional/national/international regulations.
