OP-13 (Octylphenol polyoxyethylene (13) ether) is a nonionic surfactant with an HLB value of approximately 14.5, easily soluble in water, and a cloud point as high as 105~115°C. It has good hydrophilicity and emulsifying ability. When using, generally first mix OP-13 with the aqueous phase components of the formulation, heat to 40~50°C under stirring to accelerate dissolution (the product may be paste-like at low temperatures), then add the oil phase or other components after complete dispersion. Due to its excellent compatibility with anionic, cationic, and nonionic surfactants, it can be flexibly compounded to achieve synergistic effects.
OP-13 can be used alone as an emulsifier, penetrant, or detergent, or combined with other surfactants (such as OP-10, AEO-9, etc.) to adjust the HLB value and improve overall performance. In applications requiring emulsion stability such as emulsion polymerization and pesticide emulsification, it is recommended to use it in combination with oil-soluble emulsifiers with low HLB values to obtain narrower emulsion particle size distribution and better storage stability.
| Application Area | Recommended Dosage (% of total formulation) | Usage Method |
|---|---|---|
| Industrial cleaners (metal hard surface cleaning) | 2%~8% | Compound with alkaline additives, chelating agents, etc., stir and dissolve in water at 40~50°C for immersion or spray cleaning |
| Household liquid detergents | 1%~5% | Used as a degreasing active component, compounded with other surfactants |
| Textile scouring agents/penetrants | 0.5~3 g/L (working solution concentration) | Add directly to the pretreatment bath, use with alkali agents, treatment temperature 80~100°C |
| Textile leveling agents | 0.5~2 g/L (working solution concentration) | Add to the dye bath at the beginning of the dyeing process to help uniform dye uptake |
| Pesticide emulsifiers (EC formulation) | 5%~15% (based on oil phase) | First dissolve in the pesticide technical oil phase, then slowly add to water for emulsification |
| Emulsion polymerization emulsifiers | 1%~3% (based on total monomer) | Add to the aqueous phase before polymerization, partially pre-emulsify monomers to form a stable pre-emulsion |
| Metalworking fluids (cutting fluids/grinding fluids) | 3%~10% | Used as emulsifier and lubricant component, compounded with base oil, rust inhibitors, etc., into a concentrate |
| Leather degreasing agents | 1~5 g/L (working solution concentration) | Prepare degreasing solution with warm water, treatment time 30~60 minutes |
| Paper deinking/wetting agents | 0.1%~0.5% (based on pulp) | Add during pulping or flotation process to improve ink detachment and fiber dispersion |
| Paint/ink wetting and dispersing agents | 0.2%~1% (based on total formulation) | Add during grinding or dispersion stage, better effect when ground together with pigment |
