OP-21 Octylphenol Polyoxyethylene Ether is a high-performance nonionic surfactant. Although it has excellent functionality, its octylphenol structural group imparts certain health and environmental risks to the product. According to its GHS hazard classification, this product falls under skin irritation Category 2, serious eye damage Category 2A, reproductive toxicity Category 2, and poses both acute and chronic hazards to the aquatic environment. During use, operators must fully understand these potential risks and implement corresponding protective measures throughout the entire process.
The core risks of this product originate from two aspects: first, the degreasing and irritant effects of the surfactant itself on skin and mucous membranes; second, the endocrine-disrupting properties (estrogen-like activity) of the octylphenol group. Long-term or repeated high-dose exposure may adversely affect the reproductive system. In addition, the product can gradually degrade in the environment into octylphenol, which has stronger endocrine-disrupting activity and persists in the environment, so waste disposal also requires great attention.

Before operation: Must obtain special safety guidance (GHS precautionary statement P201) before use, carefully read the Safety Data Sheet (SDS), and fully understand the product's hazard characteristics and emergency measures. The workplace should be equipped with emergency eyewash and shower facilities to allow immediate flushing in case of accidental contact.
During operation: Keep the work area well-ventilated, avoid inhaling vapor or aerosols when heating the product. Do not eat, drink, or smoke in the work area to prevent accidental ingestion. After operation, thoroughly wash hands and any possibly contacted skin areas in accordance with P264. If open operation or splash risk exists, safety goggles and protective gloves must be worn throughout.
Emergency response: If accidentally enters eyes, immediately rinse with plenty of water for several minutes (P305+P351+P338). If wearing contact lenses, remove them and continue rinsing. If irritation persists, seek medical attention (P337+P313). For skin contact, wash thoroughly with plenty of water and soap (P302+P352). If concerned about exposure or feeling unwell, seek medical attention promptly (P308+P313).
Since this product is classified as reproductive toxicity Category 2 (H361, suspected of damaging fertility or the unborn child), women of childbearing age, pregnant women, and those planning pregnancy should avoid long-term or repeated exposure to the product environment. Relevant personnel should undergo regular occupational health examinations, focusing on liver and kidney function and reproductive health indicators. In addition, the octylphenol group has endocrine-disrupting properties; although bioaccumulation potential is low to moderate (log Kow approx. 3.5–4.8), long-term exposure still requires vigilance.
