Question

What are the storage conditions for OP-21 Octylphenol Polyoxyethylene Ether?

Answer
2026-05-17 官方文档 OP-21辛基酚聚氧乙烯醚

OP-21 Octylphenol Polyoxyethylene Ether should be stored in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated warehouse, away from heat sources and ignition sources, keep the container sealed, and avoid moisture absorption.

Detailed Description

OP-21 Octylphenol Polyoxyethylene Ether is chemically stable at room temperature, but its appearance state changes with temperature. The product has a melting point between 45~50°C. At room temperature, it is usually a white to light yellow paste or solid, which may turn into a viscous liquid when the temperature rises. Therefore, it is recommended to control the storage environment temperature below 50°C to prevent unexpected physical changes in the product state, while avoiding long-term high-temperature exposure that may cause color deepening or performance degradation.

This product has obvious hygroscopicity. It may cake or become diluted after contacting moisture in the air, affecting the effective ingredient content and usage effect. Therefore, after each use, the container must be immediately resealed tightly and stored in a dry environment. It is recommended to keep the relative humidity below 60% RH for optimal results.

The product has a flash point greater than 200°C and is not flammable or explosive. However, when heated and decomposed in a fire, it may release irritating or toxic fumes. Therefore, the storage area should be away from open flames, high-temperature heat sources, and strong oxidizers, and should have good ventilation conditions.

Key Storage Parameters

Recommended Packaging50kg plastic drum / 200kg plastic drum / IBC tote

Application Recommendations

For high-frequency usage scenarios (such as daily feeding in production lines), consider storing the product in a temperature-controlled auxiliary material room. If the paste becomes hard due to low temperature before dispensing, use warm water not exceeding 40°C to indirectly preheat the outer wall of the drum. Do not use steam or open flames for direct heating. For long-term storage in large quantities, it is recommended to use original sealed drums and follow the "first in, first out" principle. Unopened original drums stored under recommended conditions typically have a shelf life of more than 12 months (subject to the factory report).

Precautions

  • Wear protective gloves and goggles when opening the container to prevent the product from splashing into eyes or contacting skin.
  • Do not discharge spillage into water bodies or sewers. Collect and dispose of in accordance with hazardous waste regulations (P501).
  • If the product accidentally freezes or pastes at low temperature, allow it to naturally warm to room temperature before use. Do not bake with open flames.
