PEG-1000/1500 is a non-ionic polyethylene glycol series product produced by Haian Guoli Chemical Co., Ltd., with CAS number 25322-68-3, appearing as a white waxy solid, with a molecular weight between 1000 and 1500, possessing excellent emulsifying, dispersing, wetting, and solubilizing capabilities, as well as good chemical stability, widely used in cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, textiles, rubber, and industrial manufacturing.

Detailed Description

PEG-1000/1500 (polyethylene glycol) is a non-ionic surfactant with the molecular formula HO(C2H4O)nH, where the degree of polymerization n is approximately 20 to 50. The product is available in two specifications: PEG-1000 and PEG-1500, allowing flexible selection based on molecular weight requirements. Its appearance is a white waxy solid or flake, easily soluble in water, with an aqueous solution that is weakly acidic to neutral (pH 4.5~7.5 for a 1% aqueous solution), a melting point range of 37~54°C, solid at room temperature, and turning into a transparent liquid upon heating.

This product is known for its excellent physical and chemical stability and broad compatibility. It remains stable over a wide pH range, is resistant to acids, alkalis, and hard water, and is compatible with various organic solvents, surfactants, and polymer materials. The active content is as high as 99% or more, with an HLB value of approximately 16, making it a strongly hydrophilic non-ionic surfactant with good moisturizing, lubricating, and solubilizing functions. It has low toxicity and is extremely low in acute oral toxicity, suitable for fields with high safety requirements such as medicine and cosmetics.

As one of Guoli Chemical's core products, PEG-1000/1500 is packaged in moisture-proof sealed containers (50kg plastic drums, 200kg plastic drums, or IBC totes) and should be stored in a cool, dry, well-ventilated warehouse, away from direct sunlight and strong oxidizers. The product is hygroscopic and should be sealed promptly after opening.

Application Suggestions

Cosmetics and Personal Care: Recommended addition amount 1%~5%, used as a moisturizer, lubricant, and softener. By forming hydrogen bonds with water molecules to lock in moisture, it imparts a silky feel to creams, lotions, and facial cleansers, improving the softness and smoothness of skin and hair.

Pharmaceutical Industry: As a pharmaceutical excipient, it can be used in ointment bases (core component of water-soluble bases), suppository bases (quickly melts at body temperature to release drugs), wet granulation binders, tablet film coating plasticizers, and drip pill carrier materials. The recommended dosage is determined according to the specific formulation of the dosage form.

Industrial Manufacturing: Used as a lubricant in metalworking and plastic molding, and as a mold release agent in injection molding and die casting processes. As a viscosity modifier for hot melt adhesives, it can improve the fluidity and bonding strength of the adhesive. It can also be used as a heat transfer medium in constant temperature baths or heat exchange systems.

Textile Industry: Used in warp sizing to form flexible sizing films that enhance yarn strength; used as an antistatic agent to impart conductivity and moisture absorption to fiber surfaces, quickly dissipating static charges.

Rubber Industry: Applied to the surface of unvulcanized rubber to prevent adhesion; used as a dispersing carrier medium for vulcanization accelerators, improving vulcanization efficiency and product uniformity.

Inks and Coatings: Used as a plasticizer to increase coating flexibility, as a dispersant to promote uniform pigment dispersion, and as a flow modifier to improve leveling, reducing brush marks and surface defects.

Precautions

  • Safety Protection: The product may cause skin and eye irritation (GHS classification: Skin irritation Category 2, Eye irritation Category 2, Respiratory tract irritation Category 3). Wear chemical safety goggles and protective gloves (e.g., nitrile rubber gloves) when handling. Operate in a well-ventilated area and avoid inhaling dust.
  • First Aid: If it gets into the eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water and seek medical attention (S26). In case of skin contact, wash thoroughly.
  • Storage Requirements: Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated warehouse, away from direct sunlight and high temperatures. The product is hygroscopic; seal immediately after opening and keep away from strong oxidizers.
  • Operational Prohibitions: Do not eat, drink, or smoke in the work area. After operation, immediately remove contaminated work clothes and thoroughly wash exposed skin.
