1. Unsatisfactory emulsification or emulsion stratification
As a nonionic O/W emulsifier, the emulsification effect of PEG200MO is influenced by HLB value, oil phase properties, aqueous phase conditions, and ratios. Please check: whether the correct emulsion system has been selected (this product is suitable for O/W emulsions); whether the oil-to-water phase ratio is reasonable; whether the emulsification temperature is appropriate (recommended 40–70°C); and whether adequate homogenization or stirring processes have been applied. If the effect is poor when used alone, try compounding with emulsifiers of low HLB values (such as PEG200DO) to achieve broader emulsification adaptability.
2. Product stratification, turbidity, or precipitation
The normal appearance of PEG200MO is a light yellow to yellow viscous liquid. If phase separation or turbidity occurs after storage, it may be due to prolonged exposure to extreme temperatures—recommended storage temperature is 5°C to 35°C, avoiding freezing or high heat. If slight stratification occurs, gently stir at room temperature to restore uniformity; if irreversible precipitation or rancid odor occurs, the product may have exceeded the 12-month shelf life or been stored improperly; discontinue use and replace with a new batch.
3. Poor compatibility with other components in the system
This product is a nonionic surfactant and theoretically has good compatibility with anionic, cationic, and other nonionic surfactants. If compatibility issues arise, check: whether strong acids, strong bases, or strong oxidizers (incompatible substances) are present in the system; whether the pH is in an extreme range; and whether the addition sequence is reasonable. It is recommended to first mix PEG200MO evenly with the oil phase, then gradually add the aqueous phase for emulsification.
4. Solubilization or dispersion effect lower than expected
Please confirm whether the concentration is appropriate—generally, when used as an emulsifier, the dosage is 1%–5% of the total formulation; the specific amount should be determined through small-scale tests based on the type and content of the oil phase. Also, note the effect of feeding temperature on solubilization efficiency; appropriate heating can improve fluidity and enhance dispersion efficiency.
5. Mild skin or eye irritation
This product is derived from natural oleic acid and has low irritation, but it may still cause mild reversible irritation to sensitive individuals. Always wear nitrile or neoprene gloves and safety goggles during operation. In case of contact, rinse skin with plenty of water and soap; flush eyes with running water for at least 15 minutes. If symptoms persist, seek medical attention and present the product safety data sheet.
