PEG400DL is produced by the esterification reaction of polyethylene glycol 400 and lauric acid. It appears as a colorless to slightly yellow transparent viscous liquid (cloudiness or solidification may occur at low temperatures, which is a normal physical phenomenon; after returning to room temperature and stirring evenly, it can be used). The product has a molecular weight of approximately 400, CAS number 9005-02-1, belongs to nonionic surfactants, with an HLB value of about 20, strong hydrophilicity, excellent solubility in water, and also soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol and acetone.
The active content and solid content of this product are both ≥99%, moisture content ≤0.5%, exhibiting high purity characteristics. Its acid value and saponification value are both controlled at ≤1.0 mgKOH/g, hydroxyl value range is 264~290 mgKOH/g, reflecting extremely low free fatty acid content and sufficient esterification reaction. Iodine value ≤1.0, unsaturation ≤0.1, indicating almost no unsaturated double bonds in the molecular structure, with excellent chemical stability and antioxidant capacity.
In terms of physical properties, the density of PEG400DL is 1.11~1.13 g/cm³, kinematic viscosity is 90~110 mm²/s (low shear viscosity at 25°C is 100~200 mPa·s), refractive index is 1.466~1.468. Flash point is higher than 200°C (closed cup method >250°C), melting point is lower than 5°C, making it a high flash point, low freezing point safe liquid. The pH value of a 1% aqueous solution is 5.0~7.0, and that of a 5% aqueous solution is 4.5~7.5, close to neutral, gentle on skin and metal contact. The foam performance of the product is low foaming, surface tension is about 60 mN/m, suitable for industrial formulations requiring low foam characteristics.

Based on the high HLB value (about 20) and excellent hydrophilicity of PEG400DL, it is recommended for use in oil-in-water (O/W) emulsifying systems. In cosmetics and personal care products, it can be used as a solubilizer, auxiliary emulsifier, and emollient component, with a recommended addition amount of 1%~5%; in industrial cleaning agents, utilizing its low foaming and lubricating properties, the recommended dosage is 2%~8%; in pesticide formulations, it is used as an emulsifying and dispersing agent, with a reference dosage of 3%~10%; in textile processing, it is used as an antistatic agent or softener, with the recommended amount depending on the specific process.
