Polyether L-64 (Poloxamer 184) is flexible and easy to use. It is recommended to add it during the cooling or dilution stage of the formulation; moderate stirring ensures uniform dispersion. There is no fixed dosage; it must be determined through experiments based on the specific formulation system and desired function. In industrial applications, the common reference range is 0.1% to 5%.

Detailed Description

Polyether L-64 (Pluronic L64, CAS No.: 9003-11-6) is a nonionic polymer surfactant. At room temperature, it appears as a colorless to light yellow transparent liquid with an HLB value of approximately 15. It is readily soluble in water, ethanol, and other solvents. Its unique polyoxyethylene-polyoxypropylene block copolymer structure imparts excellent low-foaming, wetting, emulsifying, and dispersing properties. It has good compatibility with anionic, cationic, and other nonionic surfactants and remains stable in acidic, alkaline, and hard water conditions.

Regarding usage, Guoli Chemical recommends adding Polyether L-64 when the formulation system cools to room temperature or during the dilution stage. Uniform dispersion can be achieved with moderate stirring, requiring no special high-speed shear equipment. Since it is insensitive to hard water ions, it maintains activity over a wide pH range, making it suitable for various process systems. For emulsion polymerization, it is typically added together with the aqueous phase during the pre-emulsification stage. For coatings or inks, it is recommended to add it in the later stages of paint mixing to avoid introducing excessive air.

Application Recommendations

The specific dosage of Polyether L-64 varies depending on the application field and functional requirements. The Guoli Chemical database notes that "the specific dosage must be determined through experiments based on the formulation system and desired function". Below are common reference dosage ranges for various application areas (based on total formulation weight):

Precautions

  • Safety Protection: This product is classified as GHS Category 2 and may cause mild skin irritation (H316) and eye irritation (H320). It is recommended to wear nitrile rubber gloves and chemical safety goggles during handling, and wash skin thoroughly after operation. If it gets into eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water for several minutes, remove contact lenses if present, and continue rinsing. If irritation persists, seek medical attention promptly.
  • Storage Requirements: The product is hygroscopic and must be stored sealed in a cool, dry, well-ventilated warehouse away from heat sources and direct sunlight. Re-seal the container immediately after opening. The shelf life is stable under normal sealed conditions at room temperature, but extreme temperature environments should be avoided.
  • Process Compatibility: Store separately from incompatible substances such as strong oxidizers, strong acids, and strong bases. If used in combination with other defoamers in low-foaming systems, compatibility testing is recommended first.
  • Environmental Note: This product has a low inherent biodegradation rate in the natural environment. Avoid direct discharge into water bodies, and dispose of waste liquid in accordance with local environmental regulations.
  • Addition Method: The product has relatively high viscosity (approximately 850 mm²/s at 25°C). Decreased fluidity at low winter temperatures is normal. It can be used after warming to room temperature or preheated in a warm water bath (not exceeding 40°C) without affecting product performance.
  • Packaging Specifications: Guoli Chemical offers packaging in 50 kg plastic drums, 200 kg plastic drums, and IBC totes, which can be selected as needed.
