Polyoxyethylene Stearate SG-6 is a nonionic surfactant with the chemical name polyoxyethylene (6) stearate (PEG-6 Stearate). It appears as a white to slightly yellow waxy solid or flakes, possessing excellent emulsifying, wetting, and dispersing properties. It is widely used in textiles, cosmetics, pesticides, industrial cleaning, and many other fields.
Detailed Description
Polyoxyethylene stearate SG-6 (CAS No.: 9004-99-3) is a nonionic surfactant prepared by the addition reaction of stearic acid and ethylene oxide. Its molecule contains both hydrophilic polyoxyethylene chain segments and lipophilic stearate ester groups, endowing it with balanced hydrophilic-lipophilic balance characteristics. Product aliases include Polyoxyethylene Stearate SG-6, Polyethylene Glycol Stearate, PEG Stearate, PEG-6 Stearate, etc.
As one of the core products of Guoli Chemical, SG-6 has an extremely low critical micelle concentration (CMC), enabling efficient emulsification of various animal and vegetable oils and mineral oils to form stable and fine emulsion systems. Moreover, it maintains stable nonionic activity in acidic, alkaline and hard water conditions, does not saponify or hydrolyze, and can be compounded with anionic, cationic, and amphoteric surfactants, synergistically enhancing performance without antagonism.
In terms of safety and ecotoxicity, SG-6 falls into the low toxicity category (rat oral LD50 > 2000 mg/kg), is non-irritating to skin and non-sensitizing, with only slight reversible eye irritation. It is readily biodegradable (>60% in 28 days under OECD 301B), has no potential for bioaccumulation, and complies with the development trend of green chemistry.

Application Recommendations
With its balanced hydrophilic-lipophilic characteristics, SG-6 has wide application value in the following six major fields:
- Cosmetics Industry: As an emulsifying solubilizer for creams and lotions, it stabilizes oil-water two-phase systems, gives products a fine texture and light skin feel, and can also act as a solubilizer for fragrances and fat-soluble active ingredients.
- Textile Printing and Dyeing: Used as a softener and antistatic agent, it adsorbs on fiber surfaces, imparts a soft fluffy hand feel to fabrics, while reducing fiber surface resistance to eliminate static buildup.
- Pesticide Formulations: Acts as an emulsifier to stably disperse pesticide technical materials in water to form uniform emulsions, improves the wetting and spreading ability of spray liquid on plant leaf surfaces, and enhances efficacy.
- Industrial Cleaning: Provides excellent detergency and degreasing ability, rapidly penetrates and emulsifies oil and grease on metal surfaces and equipment, suitable for metal degreasing and precision cleaning processes.
- Metalworking Fluids: As an emulsifying lubricating component, it forms an effective lubricating film on metal surfaces, reduces machining friction and heat, while possessing anti-rust and cooling properties.
- Paper Deinking: As a key component of waste paper recycling deinking agents, it effectively detaches and disperses printing ink particles, prevents ink re-deposition, and improves the brightness and cleanliness of recycled pulp.
Precautions
- During handling, it is recommended to wear a dust mask, chemical safety goggles, and protective gloves, and avoid eye contact.
- Store at a temperature between 15°C and 35°C, keep containers tightly closed, and place in a cool, dry, well-ventilated warehouse.
- Store separately from oxidizing agents, strong acids, and strong alkalis; do not mix storage.
- In case of accidental eye contact, immediately rinse thoroughly with running water or saline for at least 15 minutes, and seek medical attention if irritation persists.
- If swallowed, do not induce vomiting; seek immediate medical attention and show the product container or label.
