Question

What are the storage conditions for Tween T-60?

Answer
2026-05-17 官方文档 吐温T-60

Tween T-60 should be stored sealed in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated warehouse, with a recommended storage temperature of 5°C to 35°C, avoiding direct sunlight, high temperatures, and freeze-thaw cycles.

Detailed Description

Tween T-60 (polyoxyethylene (20) sorbitan monostearate) is a nonionic surfactant, appearing as a light yellow to amber oily liquid or paste at room temperature. Proper storage conditions are crucial for maintaining product performance and extending shelf life. Under normal temperature and sealed conditions, the product shelf life is two years from the date of manufacture.

The storage environment should be a cool, dry, and well-ventilated warehouse, away from heat sources, sparks, and open flames. Although the product has a high flash point (> 149°C, closed cup method) and is not classified as flammable dangerous goods, exposure to extreme temperature environments should still be avoided. The product is sensitive to moisture absorption, so containers must be kept sealed.

After opening, the product should be resealed as soon as possible. Unused product must not be returned to the original container to prevent contamination. Additionally, Tween T-60 should be stored separately from strong oxidizers, strong acids, and strong bases to avoid quality changes from mixed storage.

Summary of Storage Conditions

Shelf LifeTwo years from manufacture date (under normal temperature and sealed conditions)
Prohibited ConditionsAvoid extreme temperatures, freeze-thaw cycles

Storage Container and Material Recommendations

When selecting storage containers and pipelines, the following materials are recommended:

  • Stainless steel
  • Glass-fiber reinforced plastic (FRP)
  • Carbon steel with epoxy phenolic lining

Avoid prolonged contact with copper or copper alloys to prevent product deterioration or container corrosion.

Precautions

  • Should be stored separately from strong oxidizers, strong acids, and strong bases, and mixed storage is strictly prohibited.
  • After opening, reseal as soon as possible; unused product must not be returned to the original container to avoid contaminating the entire batch.
  • Although the product itself does not support combustion, if involved in a fire, packaging materials may decompose to produce irritating or toxic fumes; still keep away from open flames and high temperature heat sources.
  • In case of leakage, small amounts can be collected with inert absorbent materials (e.g., vermiculite, dry sand); large leaks should be contained with dikes to control spread, do not discharge leaks into surface water, groundwater, or sewage networks.
