Tween T-81 (Polysorbate 81) is a nonionic surfactant produced by Hai'an Guoli Chemical Co., Ltd. It appears as a pale yellow to amber oily liquid with mild chemical properties and excellent compatibility. However, its GHS classification is Eye Irritation Category 2 (H319), meaning that if the product splashes into the eyes, it can cause severe eye irritation symptoms. This is the most critical risk point to be aware of during use.
In daily operations, since the product is slightly hygroscopic and in liquid form at room temperature, the work environment should be well-ventilated to avoid prolonged inhalation of vapors or mists. Although the product has a high flash point (>150°C), it should still be kept away from heat sources, sparks, and open flames, and eating, drinking, or smoking in the work area is prohibited to prevent accidental ingestion.
From a formulation application perspective, the HLB value of Tween T-81 is approximately 10, and its cloud point is 50-60°C. During use, prolonged high-temperature heating should be avoided to prevent affecting its emulsifying performance. When compounding with co-emulsifiers such as the Span series, it is recommended to mix under gentle stirring conditions for optimal synergistic effects.

Tween T-81 is widely used in cosmetics, personal care products, food, pharmaceuticals, pesticide formulations, coatings, inks, and metalworking fluids, primarily serving emulsifying, solubilizing, wetting, and dispersing functions. When using, the dosage should be designed based on the HLB requirements of the specific system. It is generally recommended to add 1%-5% of the total formulation weight. It can be used alone or in combination with the Span series to finely adjust the emulsifying effect.
In fields with higher safety requirements such as food and pharmaceuticals, it is necessary to ensure that the Tween T-81 product selected meets the corresponding regulatory grades, and the impurity indicators such as heavy metals and arsenic must be strictly controlled. When preparing emulsions, it is recommended to first dissolve Tween T-81 in the oil phase, then slowly add it to the water phase under stirring to form a uniform and stable emulsion.
