Question

What is tristyrylphenol polyoxyethylene ether 600-2

Answer

Tristyrylphenol polyoxyethylene ether 600-2 is a nonionic surfactant with tristyrylphenol as the hydrophobic group, produced by addition polymerization of ethylene oxide, widely used in pesticide emulsification, emulsion polymerization, textile auxiliaries, and industrial cleaning.

Detailed Description

Tristyrylphenol polyoxyethylene ether 600-2 (CAS No.: 99734-09-5, also known as TSP 600) is a nonionic surfactant produced by Guoli Chemical, with molecular formula C₆H₅C(C₈H₈)₃O(C₂H₄O)nH, where the average addition number of ethylene oxide is n≈9-10, and molecular weight is approximately 824. At room temperature, the product appears as a light yellow to brownish yellow liquid, with a melting point below -10°C and a flash point above 150°C, and it is not classified as a flammable liquid.

The core advantage of this product lies in its unique molecular structure — the multi-phenyl ring hydrophobic group provides strong adsorption and anchoring capabilities, endowing it with excellent emulsifying and dispersing power, enabling rapid emulsification and long-term stability for difficult oil phase systems. Meanwhile, the product exhibits excellent tolerance to inorganic salts, acids, alkalis, and hard water media, with strong chemical stability and resistance to hydrolysis or oxidative degradation. The 600-2 and the same series 600-1 products can achieve synergistic effects through compounding, forming a more dense and stable interfacial film.

The product has an HLB value of 11.5, a cloud point of 50~60°C, is easily soluble in oil and water, possesses good wetting and spreading properties, and can significantly reduce the dynamic surface tension of the system. It has low water content (≤1.0%), high active content (≥99%), free alcohol content ≤3%, and is not prone to moisture absorption and caking in humid environments, ensuring accurate production metering.

Application Suggestions

Pesticide Emulsifier: Used as a core nonionic emulsifying component for formulating emulsifiable concentrates, water emulsions, suspension concentrates and other formulations. It is recommended to compound with anionic emulsifiers (e.g., calcium dodecylbenzene sulfonate) to significantly enhance the thermodynamic stability of the formulation and the spreading and penetration ability of the liquid on leaf surfaces.

Emulsion Polymerization Emulsifier: Suitable for emulsion polymerization of acrylate, styrene-acrylic, vinyl acetate-acrylic and other systems, effectively controlling latex particle size and distribution, improving the mechanical and chemical stability of the synthetic latex. Recommended dosage is 1%~3% of monomer total weight.

Textile Dyeing and Printing Auxiliary: Used as a component of leveling agents and dispersants, effectively dispersing dyes, preventing spots, improving leveling and color fastness, and enhancing fabric wetting and scouring effect in pretreatment.

Industrial Cleaner: As a strong emulsifying and decontamination component in metal cleaning and hard surface cleaning formulations, resistant to acids and alkalis, suitable for room temperature and heated cleaning systems. It is recommended to compound with other nonionic and anionic surfactants for optimal cleaning performance.

Precautions

  • The product is low-toxic but irritating. GHS classification: Skin irritation (Category 2, H315) and Serious eye irritation (Category 2, H319). Wear nitrile rubber gloves and chemical safety goggles during operation.
  • Recommended storage temperature: 5-35°C. Avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles. Increased viscosity at low temperatures is a normal physical phenomenon; restore fluidity by warming to room temperature and stirring evenly before use.
  • Keep the container tightly sealed during storage, away from strong oxidizers, and follow the "first in, first out" principle.
  • The product flash point is above 150°C and is not a flammable liquid, but combustible vapors may be generated at high temperatures. Ensure good ventilation in the usage area.
  • Packaging specifications: 50kg plastic drum, 200kg plastic drum, or IBC tote.
