Answer
2026-06-06 官方文档 蓖麻油聚氧乙烯醚EL-80

Castor Oil Polyoxyethylene Ether EL-80 is a high HLB value nonionic surfactant synthesized by condensing natural castor oil with ethylene oxide. It has excellent emulsifying, dispersing, solubilizing, and antistatic properties, and is widely used in fields such as textiles, pesticides, daily chemicals, metal processing, and emulsion polymerization.

Detailed Description

Castor Oil Polyoxyethylene Ether EL-80 (CAS No.: 61791-12-6) is produced by condensing natural castor oil with approximately 80 moles of ethylene oxide under the action of a catalyst. At room temperature, it appears as a pale yellow paste to solid. Its HLB value ranges from 15.5 to 16.5, making it a highly hydrophilic surfactant that is easily soluble in water to form a clear solution. This product is nonionic and has excellent resistance to acid, alkali, hard water, and electrolytes. It is one of the core emulsifier products of Guoli Chemical.

In the molecular structure of this product, the synergistic effect of the long-chain fatty acid ester and the polyoxyethylene ether chain endows it with outstanding emulsifying and solubilizing capabilities, excellent wetting and permeability, low foaming properties, and good antistatic and smoothing effects. Additionally, it has excellent compatibility with other surfactants; it can synergistically enhance performance when combined with nonionic, anionic, and cationic surfactants as well as most organic solvents, providing strong formulation adaptability.

Derived from natural castor oil, Castor Oil Polyoxyethylene Ether EL-80 has good biodegradability. In rapid biodegradability tests such as OECD 301B, it can achieve a degradation rate of over 70% within 28 days, classifying it as a ultimately biodegradable product. Its flash point is above 150°C (closed cup method), and it is not classified as a flammable liquid. It can be transported and stored under non-hazardous chemical conditions.

Application Recommendations

1. Textile Industry: Used as a smoothing component and antistatic agent in spinning oil formulations for synthetic fibers (nylon, polyester, etc.), reducing the fiber dynamic friction coefficient and decreasing broken filaments and ends. Recommended dosage: 0.1%~0.5% of the working oil bath; as a leveling agent, add 0.05%~0.2% (based on dye bath weight). In wool spinning and oil formulations, it can also be used as an emulsifier and lubricating aid.

2. Pesticide Formulations: As an efficient emulsifier for poorly emulsifiable emulsifiable concentrate (EC) systems such as pyrethroids and organophosphates. When formulating mixed solvent ECs, the recommended addition amount is 5%~12%, often compounded with anionic emulsifiers to achieve stable emulsion performance. It can also serve as the primary emulsifier in EW (emulsion in water) and ME (microemulsion) formulations.

3. Daily Chemicals and Personal Care: Used in shampoos and shower gels as a solubilizer and refatting agent for water-soluble emollient esters; in O/W creams and lotions as an emulsifier; especially suitable for solubilizing transparent systems of fragrances and plant essential oils.

4. Metalworking and Lubrication: As an emulsifier for emulsifiable and semi-synthetic cutting fluids, recommended to add 1%~3% of the total formulation. It has good emulsifying ability for base oils such as mineral oil and synthetic esters, and provides rust inhibition and boundary lubrication effects.

5. Industrial Cleaners: Recommended addition amount of 1%~5% of the total formulation. When compounded with dodecylbenzenesulfonic acid and fatty alcohol polyoxyethylene ethers, it significantly enhances oil removal, degreasing, and dispersing capabilities.

6. Emulsion Polymerization: Used as a nonionic emulsifier and colloidal stabilizer in emulsion polymerization systems such as acrylate, styrene-acrylic, and vinyl acetate-acrylic, maintaining dispersion stability of latex particles and improving mechanical and calcium ion stability of the latex.

Precautions

  • Recommended storage temperature is 5~35°C. Avoid high temperatures causing softening and caking, or low temperatures causing paste hardening. Keep away from fire and heat sources.
  • This product is hygroscopic; reseal the container promptly after opening.
  • It is recommended to conduct small-scale trials before use to determine the optimal dosage and formulation process conditions.
  • Wear personal protective equipment such as nitrile rubber gloves and chemical safety goggles during operation.
  • Avoid contact with strong oxidizing agents (e.g., peroxides, permanganates).
  • Disposal should comply with local regulations and be handled by qualified waste treatment agencies.
