G-25 Glycereth-25 is a water-soluble nonionic surfactant with an HLB value of approximately 13.5. It belongs to O/W emulsifiers and highly effective solubilizers. The actual dosage varies depending on the application field, generally ranging from 0.5% to 10% of the total formulation.

Detailed Description

G-25 Glycereth-25 (Glycereth-25), produced by Guoli Chemical, is a mild nonionic surfactant. According to the Guoli Chemical product database, its effective content is ≥99%, HLB value is about 13.5, cloud point is above 100°C (1% aqueous solution), and critical micelle concentration (CMC) is approximately 0.1% (w/v). It has good water solubility and chemical stability, maintaining functional integrity over a wide pH range.

Since the product is a colorless to slightly yellow transparent liquid at room temperature (freezing point below -10°C) and has low foaming characteristics, the following general operation method can be used: under stirring, slowly add G-25 to the aqueous phase, utilizing its excellent water solubility for rapid dispersion; for oil-water mixed systems, it can be added to the aqueous phase preheated to 40~60°C and then mixed with the oil phase for emulsification, or pre-mixed with the oil phase followed by water addition for phase inversion. The product viscosity is approximately 150 mPa·s (25°C), making it easy to handle and pump, suitable for automated production line metering addition.

Application Recommendations

Cosmetics and Personal Care Products: When used as a solubilizer, it is recommended to add 3 to 5 times the amount of the essential oil/fragrance to be solubilized (i.e., fragrance:solubilizer ≈ 1:3~1:5) to produce transparent aqueous formulations; as an O/W emulsifier, the recommended dosage is 2%~5% of the total formulation, which can be combined with low HLB emulsifiers (such as G-2, G-3 series) to optimize emulsion stability; as a moisturizing additive in rinse-off products such as shampoos and body washes, a recommended addition of 1%~3% can effectively improve post-wash skin feel.

Textile Industry: When used as a spinning oil component, it is recommended to add 5%~15% of the total oil agent, combined with smoothing agents and antistatic agents; for fabric softening finishing, the finishing solution concentration is recommended at 0.5%~3% (based on fabric weight), applied via padding and drying.

Metalworking Fluids: As an emulsifier and lubricant in water-based cutting fluids and grinding fluids, the recommended dosage is 5%~10% of the concentrate, combined with mineral oil, rust inhibitors, and other components to form emulsified oil or semi-synthetic fluids, diluted to 3%~10% working concentration before use. Its excellent hard water resistance (cloud point >100°C) ensures long-term stability of the working fluid under high hardness water conditions.

Industrial Cleaners: As a low-foaming surfactant, the recommended dosage is 2%~8%, suitable for high-pressure spray cleaning and hard surface cleaning formulations, with better results when combined with alkaline additives and chelating agents.

Emulsion Polymerization: As an emulsifier and stabilizer in acrylic, styrene-acrylic, etc., emulsion polymerization systems, the recommended dosage is 1%~4% of the total monomer amount, effectively controlling latex particle size and providing good mechanical and freeze-thaw stability.

Pesticide Formulations: As an emulsifier and spreading agent in water-based pesticide formulations (EC, EW, ME, etc.), the recommended dosage is 5%~15% of the total formulation, helping to improve the wetting and spreading performance of the spray liquid on plant leaves.

Precautions

  • Pre-treatment: The product viscosity increases at low temperatures. If it becomes turbid or pasty in winter, it can be warmed to 20~40°C to restore fluidity and transparency without affecting performance.
  • Addition Sequence: When preparing O/W emulsions, it is recommended to add G-25 to the aqueous phase, stir to dissolve, and then mix with the oil phase for emulsification to obtain finer and more stable emulsions.
  • Combination Use: Combining with low HLB emulsifiers (such as low mole number glycereth series) can produce synergistic effects, expanding the emulsification range and improving stability.
  • Protective Measures: According to Guoli Chemical safety data, this product is non-irritating to skin and mildly irritating to eyes, but it is still recommended to wear protective gloves and goggles during operation and wash hands after handling.
  • Storage Conditions: Storage temperature should be maintained between 10°C and 40°C, sealed and moisture-proof (the product is hygroscopic), avoid mixing with strong acids, strong bases, and strong oxidizers.
  • Optimal Dosage Confirmation: The above dosages are general industry reference ranges. It is recommended to verify the optimal dosage through small-scale experiments, especially in high electrolyte or complex formulation systems.
