Question

What safety precautions should be taken when using G-25 Glycereth-25?

Answer
2026-06-06 官方文档 G-25甘油聚氧乙烯25醚

G-25 Glycereth-25 is a low-toxicity, non-irritating nonionic surfactant, but standardized handling, storage, and emergency procedures must still be followed to ensure personnel safety and product stability.

Detailed Description

G-25 Glycereth-25 is a nonionic surfactant with high safety. Toxicological data show that it is practically non-toxic — oral LD50 in rats > 5000 mg/kg, dermal LD50 > 2000 mg/kg, non-irritating to skin (rabbit, primary irritation index 0), eye irritation is only mild and reversible within 48 hours, and skin sensitization is negative. Although the product itself has excellent safety, long-term or repeated exposure may still cause discomfort in industrial-scale operations, so standardized protective measures cannot be ignored.

Under normal handling conditions, this product is not flammable or explosive. However, improper storage and handling may lead to moisture absorption and deterioration, or thermal decomposition producing irritating fumes. In addition, although it has good biodegradability (OECD 301F, >60% degradation in 28 days), it is strictly prohibited to directly discharge the product or waste liquids containing the product into soil, water bodies, or drainage systems. Disposal must be carried out by licensed professional waste treatment facilities in compliance with national and local environmental regulations.

Classification of Safety Precautions

1. Personal Protective Requirements

  • Wear impermeable gloves, chemical safety goggles, and protective clothing during operations to avoid skin and eye contact
  • Ensure good ventilation in the workplace to prevent accumulation of aerosols
  • No eating, drinking, or smoking at the work site; thoroughly wash hands and exposed skin after operation
  • Operators should receive professional training and be familiar with product characteristics and emergency procedures

2. Storage Conditions

  • Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated dedicated warehouse, away from heat sources, sparks, and open flames
  • Keep containers tightly closed; storage temperature should be maintained between 10°C and 40°C, avoiding freezing and prolonged high-temperature exposure
  • Avoid mixing with incompatible substances such as strong oxidizers, strong acids, and strong bases
  • Regularly inspect packaging containers for signs of leakage, deformation, or corrosion; if damaged, immediately transfer to intact containers

3. Emergency Response Measures

Accident TypeTreatment Method
Inhalation discomfortImmediately move the patient to fresh air; administer oxygen if breathing is difficult; perform artificial respiration if breathing stops and seek medical attention
Skin contactRemove contaminated clothing, rinse thoroughly with plenty of running water and mild soap for at least 15 minutes; seek medical attention if irritation persists
Eye contactHold eyelids apart and flush continuously with plenty of running water or saline for at least 15 minutes; seek ophthalmic treatment as soon as possible
IngestionRinse mouth with water, do NOT induce vomiting; if conscious, give a small amount of water to dilute; immediately call a poison control center or seek medical attention
SpillageFor small spills, contain and collect with inert absorbent materials (sand, vermiculite); for large spills, dike to prevent entry into drains, transfer with specialized equipment
FireUse water fog, dry powder, carbon dioxide, or alcohol-resistant foam; firefighters must wear positive-pressure self-contained breathing apparatus and full protective clothing

4. Toxicological and Ecological Information

ItemResult
Acute oral toxicity (rat)LD50 > 5000 mg/kg, practically non-toxic
Acute dermal toxicity (rat)LD50 > 2000 mg/kg
Skin irritation (rabbit)Non-irritating, primary irritation index 0
Eye irritation (rabbit)Mildly irritating, reversible within 48 hours
Skin sensitization (guinea pig maximization test)Negative
Genotoxicity (Ames test)Negative, no genotoxicity
Biodegradability (OECD 301F)28-day degradation > 60%, readily biodegradable

Application Recommendations

In applications such as personal care products, textiles, metalworking, and industrial cleaning, G-25 is typically used at low concentrations (0.5%~10% depending on formulation), where its safety risk is minimal. It is recommended to conduct small-scale validation before first bulk use to confirm compatibility with other formulation components. For water-based formulations, this product maintains good chemical stability over a wide pH range, tolerates acids, alkalis, and electrolytes, and has strong resistance to hard water interference.
