OP-10 is a non-ionic surfactant with core characteristics of excellent emulsification, wetting, dispersion and detergency, featuring strong chemical stability and extremely wide application fields.
Detailed Description
OP-10 (Octylphenol polyoxyethylene ether, CAS: 9036-19-5) is a non-ionic surfactant, usually appearing as a colorless to light yellow transparent liquid or paste. Its molecular structure contains hydrophilic polyoxyethylene chains and hydrophobic octylphenyl groups, endowing it with outstanding surface activity. OP-10 is also known as a substitute for Triton X-100 and is one of the most widely used emulsifiers in industry.
In terms of performance, OP-10 possesses four core advantages: Excellent emulsifying performance, effectively reducing oil-water interfacial tension and forming stable emulsions, suitable for various oil-phase systems; Superior wetting and penetrating ability, significantly reducing liquid surface tension and quickly wetting various substrate surfaces; Efficient dispersing and detergency, having good suspension and dispersion effects on dirt particles, with both decontamination and anti-redeposition functions; Strong chemical stability, maintaining stable performance across a wide pH range, resistant to hard water, and compatible with various additives.
With these comprehensive properties, OP-10 is widely used in industrial and household cleaning agents, textile printing and dyeing penetrants and leveling agents, pesticide emulsifiers, water-based paint wetting and dispersing agents, leather degreasing agents, papermaking deinking agents, crude oil demulsifiers, and metalworking fluids. It is truly a "versatile" surfactant.

- Pesticide Formulations: As emulsifier in emulsifiable concentrates and water-based emulsions, enhancing solution stability and adhesion.
- Water-based Coatings and Inks: As wetting and dispersing agent and emulsion polymerization emulsifier, improving pigment dispersion and preventing sedimentation.
- Leather Processing: Effectively removes natural and process oils, preparing for tanning and dyeing processes.
- Papermaking Industry: Used for felt cleaning and waste paper deinking, promoting ink separation and removal.
- Oilfield Exploitation: Applied in crude oil dehydration and demulsification, and acidizing additive formulations.
- Metalworking Fluids: As component in cutting fluids and grinding fluids, providing lubrication, cooling, and cleaning functions.
Precautions
- Health Hazards: Harmful if swallowed (H302), causes skin irritation (H315), causes serious eye irritation (H319). Wear nitrile rubber gloves, protective clothing, and chemical safety goggles during operation.
- Environmental Hazards: Harmful to aquatic life with long lasting effects (H412). Do not discharge untreated directly into water bodies or the environment.
- Storage Conditions: Store in a cool, dry place at 5°C to 40°C; use containers made of stainless steel, HDPE, or carbon steel lined with epoxy resin; avoid prolonged contact with aluminum and copper.
- Emergency Treatment: In case of skin contact, wash with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes; in case of eye contact, rinse continuously for at least 20 minutes and seek medical attention immediately; if swallowed, do NOT induce vomiting, drink water immediately and seek medical attention.
