OP-13 Octylphenol Polyoxyethylene Ether is a high-performance nonionic surfactant, produced by the condensation of octylphenol with ethylene oxide. It possesses excellent emulsifying, wetting, dispersing, and detergency properties and is widely used in various fields such as industrial cleaning, textile printing and dyeing, pesticides, and emulsion polymerization.

Detailed Description

OP-13 Octylphenol Polyoxyethylene Ether (CAS number: 9036-19-5) is a nonionic surfactant manufactured by Guoli Chemical. Its aliases include OP-13 emulsifier, octylphenol polyoxyethylene (13) ether, polyoxyethylene (13) octylphenyl ether, etc. The English name is Octylphenol Ethoxylate (13). Its molecular formula is C8H17C6H4O(CH2CH2O)nH, where n≈13, and the molecular weight is approximately 779. The product appears as a colorless to light yellow oily liquid or paste, with a very high active content (≥99%), demonstrating excellent application value in a wide range of industrial fields.

This product features an optimized molecular structure and hydrophilic-lipophilic balance, enabling it to rapidly reduce the oil-water interfacial tension and form stable, fine emulsions, especially suitable for emulsification needs under demanding conditions. It can significantly lower the surface tension of liquids and exhibit rapid, uniform wetting and deep penetration capabilities on various fibers and hard surfaces. It also has good chemical stability, maintaining excellent performance over a wide range of acidity and alkalinity as well as in high-hardness water. It is compatible with anionic, cationic, and other nonionic surfactants, offering strong formulation adaptability.

OP-13 is readily soluble in water. The pH value of a 1% aqueous solution is 5.0~7.0, the HLB value is approximately 14.5, and the cloud point (1% aqueous solution) is between 105~115°C, classifying it as a relatively hydrophilic emulsifier. Its critical micelle concentration (CMC) is 0.1~0.3 g/L, surface tension is around 30~32 mN/m, penetrating power is about 30 seconds (by canvas sedimentation method), and foaming property is moderate foam. The product has a melting point of approximately 20~25°C, density of 1.06 g/cm³, flash point greater than 150°C, is hygroscopic, and chemically stable.

Application Recommendations

OP-13, with its outstanding emulsifying, wetting, dispersing, and detergency properties, finds broad applications in multiple industrial fields:

  • Industrial and Household Cleaners: As a core component of high-efficiency degreasers, it can effectively remove heavy grease and everyday stains, suitable for metal hard surface cleaning, heavy-duty fabric cleaning, and household cleaning products.
  • Textile Printing and Dyeing Auxiliaries: Used as a high-efficiency scouring agent, penetrating agent, and leveling agent, it significantly improves wetting and penetration during fiber pretreatment and dyeing processes, helping dyes to evenly color, reducing color spots, and improving fabric hand feel and whiteness.
  • Pesticide Emulsifiers: As a key emulsifying auxiliary, it stably and finely disperses oil-soluble active ingredients in water to form a uniform emulsion, enhancing the spreading and adhesion of the spray liquid on plant leaves and boosting biological activity.
  • Emulsion Polymerization Emulsifiers: In the emulsion polymerization of monomers such as vinyl acetate and acrylates, it provides a stable emulsification foundation, precisely controlling the emulsion particle size, ensuring smooth polymerization and controllable latex particle size.
  • Metalworking Fluids: In cutting fluids and grinding fluids, it acts as an emulsifying and lubricating component, combining cleaning, lubrication, and anti-rust functions, reducing processing friction and heat buildup, prolonging tool life, and ensuring workpiece surface finish.
  • Leather Degreasing Agents: Efficiently removes natural fats and dirt from raw hides, promoting uniform subsequent processes such as liming and tanning, improving the softness of the leather and leather yield.
  • Paper Auxiliaries: Used as a component of waste paper deinking agents and as a wetting and dispersing auxiliary in paper coating processes, enhancing the wetting and dispersion of pulp fibers, improving pulp quality and coating uniformity.
  • Coatings and Inks: As a high-efficiency pigment wetting and dispersing agent and substrate wetting agent, it promotes de-flocculation and stable dispersion of pigment and filler particles, enhancing the system's color development, gloss, and adhesion.

Precautions
