Question

How to use alkali-resistant penetrant AEP? What is the recommended dosage?

Answer

The specific usage and dosage of alkali-resistant penetrant AEP should be determined through experiments based on the application field and process conditions. The general recommended dosage range is 0.5%~2.0% of the total working fluid volume.

Detailed Description

Alkali-resistant penetrant AEP (fatty alcohol polyoxyethylene ether phosphate) is an anionic surfactant that is easily soluble in water. In practical use, it can be directly mixed uniformly with cold or warm water and then added to the working fluid system. With its excellent chemical stability, this product is especially suitable for high-concentration alkali bath environments. It can maintain excellent penetration and wetting properties even under conditions of up to 200g/L sodium hydroxide, which is not achievable by most ordinary penetrants.

To ensure its full efficacy, it is recommended to pre-mix AEP with a measured amount of water into a uniform liquid, and then slowly add it to the main working fluid under stirring. When preparing alkaline working fluids, the usual dosing sequence is: first add auxiliaries like AEP to water, mix thoroughly, and then add solid caustic soda. This takes advantage of AEP's dispersibility and avoids direct contact with high-concentration alkali liquor, which could cause local performance issues due to heat generation. In processes requiring long standing times like cold pad-batch, its low-foaming property and sustained penetration ability ensure uniform coverage and deep wetting of the treatment liquid on the fabric.

The optimal dosage is comprehensively influenced by factors such as the substrate being treated (cotton, blends, leather, metal), bath ratio, alkali concentration, temperature, and treatment time. The database does not provide a fixed absolute dosage. Therefore, we strongly recommend conducting small-scale trials based on your specific process conditions before use to balance cost and treatment effect and determine the most economical dosage for your production flow.

Application Suggestions

Based on the application fields recorded in the Guoli Chemical Database, we provide the following reference dosage ranges and process suggestions for your testing and verification:

Textile Dyeing and Finishing Field

  • One-bath scouring and bleaching of cotton fabric with alkali and peroxide: Recommended test dosage is 0.5%~1.5% of the working fluid. Adding AEP to the bath containing caustic soda and hydrogen peroxide can significantly improve whiteness and capillary effect.
  • Cold pad-batch pretreatment: Recommended test dosage is 0.5%~2.0% of the working fluid. Its excellent low-temperature and long-time penetrability ensures that the fabric is fully and uniformly impregnated with the treatment liquid during storage.
  • Desizing and mercerizing processes: Recommended test dosage is 0.5~3.0g/L. Adding to the concentrated caustic soda bath in mercerizing promotes rapid penetration of alkali into the fiber interior, improving mercerizing uniformity and luster.

Other Industrial Fields

  • Leather soaking and degreasing: Recommended test dosage is 0.3%~1.0% of the raw hide weight. When used together with alkaline auxiliaries like soda ash, it accelerates the softening of dry hides and the emulsification and removal of natural fats.
  • Paper pulping and penetration: Recommended test dosage is 0.5%~1.5% of the absolute dry raw material. Adding to the cooking liquor helps alkali liquor quickly wet the interior of wood chips or grass raw materials, improving pulp yield.
  • Alkaline cleaning of metals and hard surfaces: Recommended test addition is 2.0%~5.0% in the concentrated cleaning agent formulation. It effectively enhances the cleaning liquid's ability to penetrate and strip heavy oil and dirt from metal surfaces.

The above ranges are general estimates based on product characteristics, not fixed standards. The final dosage must be determined through systematic experiments based on your specific raw materials, equipment, and water quality conditions.

Precautions

Please strictly follow the requirements of the product safety data sheet during operation:

  • Personal protection: Operators must wear chemical-resistant gloves, protective clothing, and safety goggles/face shields to avoid direct contact with skin and eyes.
  • Storage requirements: Keep containers tightly closed, store in a cool and dry place at 5℃~40℃, and use alkali-resistant containers such as polyethylene or stainless steel.
  • Emergency procedures: In case of contact with skin or eyes, immediately rinse with plenty of running water for at least 15 minutes, and seek medical attention as necessary. Waste disposal must comply with local regulations to avoid direct discharge into water bodies.
