If you encounter problems when using alkali-resistant penetrating agent AEP, please first perform self-check according to the common problem checklist; if the problem still cannot be resolved, it is recommended to contact the Technical Department of Hai'an County Guoli Chemical Co., Ltd. for professional support.
Common problems self-check and solution paths
Alkali-resistant penetrating agent AEP (fatty alcohol polyoxyethylene ether phosphate ester, CAS: 68439-39-4), as an anionic high-efficiency penetrating agent, problems in use usually arise from process conditions, formulation systems, or storage methods. First, confirm the specific manifestation of the problem, then check against the following directions:
1. Poor penetration effect or decreased wetting ability
- Excessive alkali concentration: Although this product can withstand up to 200g/L NaOH, extreme alkali concentrations (exceeding the tolerance limit) may still affect its stability. Confirm whether the working fluid alkali concentration is within the recommended range.
- Water quality issues: This product is resistant to hard water, but if the calcium and magnesium ion content in the water is abnormally high, effectiveness may be affected. It is recommended to test the water hardness of the working fluid.
- Improper addition sequence: AEP should be slowly added to water under stirring, rather than directly mixed with high-concentration acid or alkali before dilution. Wrong addition sequence may lead to local high concentration causing precipitation or agglomeration.
- Low temperature: This product has a melting point below 0℃, but at low temperatures (<5℃) viscosity increases significantly, leading to uneven dispersion. Before use, the material can be returned to room temperature (15~35℃) and stirred evenly.
2. Turbidity, oil separation, or precipitation in the working fluid
- Compounding with cationic auxiliaries: This product is an anionic surfactant. Mixing with cationic auxiliaries (e.g., cationic softener, fixing agent) in the same bath may cause precipitation due to charge neutralization. It is recommended to avoid the same bath or conduct a small-scale compatibility test first.
- Acidic environment (pH<2): This product is alkali-resistant but not strong acid-resistant. In excessively low pH environments, the phosphate ester group may hydrolyze, leading to a decrease in active ingredient content and precipitation. Check whether the working fluid pH is within the stable range.
- Storage temperature too high or too low: The storage temperature of this product should be controlled between 5℃ and 40℃. Exceeding 40℃ may accelerate ester bond hydrolysis; below 0℃, freezing or crystallization may occur. If frozen, slowly thaw and stir thoroughly before use.
3. Skin or eye contact with the product
Immediately follow the emergency measures in the SDS (Safety Data Sheet): For skin contact, rinse with plenty of running water and soap; for eye contact, lift eyelids and rinse with plenty of running water for at least 15 minutes, and seek medical attention immediately. This product is classified as Skin Irritant Category 2 and Serious Eye Damage/Eye Irritation Category 2. Wear chemical protective gloves, protective clothing, and protective goggles throughout the entire operation.

Application recommendations
Recommended dosage for different application fields (based on 100%, actual dosage needs optimization according to process):
- Textile alkaline oxygen one-bath scouring and bleaching: 1~3 g/L, used together with caustic soda and hydrogen peroxide in the same bath.
- Cold pad batch pretreatment: 2~5 g/L, ensure sufficient wetting of the fabric by the treatment liquid.
- Mercerizing penetration: 3~8 g/L, added to concentrated alkali bath to promote alkali penetration into the fiber interior.
- Leather soaking: 0.2%~0.5% on leather weight, accelerate softening of dry hides.
- Metal alkaline degreasing: 0.5~2%, compounded with alkali and chelating agents.
Precautions
- Before use, must conduct small-scale compatibility test to confirm compatibility with other components in the formulation system, especially avoid direct mixing with cationic substances.
- Operators must wear chemical protective gloves, protective clothing, and protective goggles. The work area should be equipped with eyewash stations and emergency showers.
- After packaging use, immediately seal to prevent moisture absorption, and follow the "first in, first out" inventory management principle.
- Waste liquid should be treated according to local regulations, not directly discharged into water bodies, as this product is harmful to aquatic life (H402).
- This product is not flammable or explosive, but thermal decomposition may produce harmful gases such as carbon monoxide, so keep away from high temperature environments.
