MOA-9 (AEO-9) is a nonionic surfactant with high active content, characterized by outstanding emulsifying power, excellent wetting and penetrating properties, superior dispersing and detergency performance, and wide chemical compatibility.

Detailed Description

The chemical name of MOA-9 is C12-14 alcohol polyoxyethylene (9) ether, belonging to the fatty alcohol polyoxyethylene ether nonionic surfactant family. The product appears as a colorless clear liquid to white paste (25°C), with an active content ≥99.0% and is easily soluble in water. Its HLB value is 13.6, indicating a hydrophilic surfactant, with a cloud point range of 55~65°C (1% aqueous solution). It remains clear in room temperature aqueous solutions, offering good ease of use.

From a performance perspective, MOA-9 offers four core advantages: First, outstanding emulsifying ability—effectively reduces oil-water interfacial tension and forms stable emulsions, with a surface tension as low as 28~32 mN/m (25°C, 0.1% aqueous solution) and a critical micelle concentration of only 0.03~0.05 g/L, indicating its effectiveness at very low concentrations; Second, excellent wetting and penetrating properties—standard canvas sinking test shows a penetration time of only 5~10 seconds (0.1% aqueous solution), quickly wetting various substrate surfaces; Third, superior dispersing and detergency performance—effectively suspends and disperses solid dirt particles, and is a low-foaming product, easy to rinse in industrial cleaning; Fourth, wide chemical compatibility—stable in acid, alkali, and hard water media, and can be flexibly compounded with anionic, cationic, and other nonionic surfactants, greatly enhancing formulation design freedom.

The product also features good environmental adaptability: excellent biodegradability, a solidification point of approximately 5~10°C, a flash point above 150°C, and stable storage at room temperature. These comprehensive properties make MOA-9 an indispensable high-efficiency auxiliary agent in fields such as textile dyeing and printing, industrial cleaning, pesticide formulations, metalworking, leather processing, papermaking deinking, and personal care.

Application Recommendations

Based on the comprehensive properties of MOA-9, the following dosage and application scenarios are recommended:

  • Textile dyeing leveling agent/scouring agent: Recommended addition amount: 1~5 g/L, utilizing its excellent wetting and penetrating properties to ensure uniform treatment of fibers, and its dispersibility to promote uniform dye uptake, avoiding color spots and unevenness.
  • Industrial and household liquid detergents: Recommended addition amount: 2~8%, partially replacing anionic surfactants to improve hard water resistance; low foaming property is especially suitable for automatic dishwashers and high-pressure spray cleaning scenarios.
  • Metal surface degreasing cleaning: Recommended addition amount: 3~10%, used with alkaline auxiliaries, leveraging its rapid penetration and strong emulsifying ability to efficiently remove mineral oils, cutting fluids, and other processing residues.
  • Pesticide emulsifiable concentrate (EC) emulsifier: Typically used in combination with nonionic/anionic compounded emulsifiers, total amount 5~15%, utilizing its hydrophilic nature with HLB 13.6 to ensure spontaneous emulsification and stable emulsion upon dilution with water.
  • Cosmetic creams/makeup removers: Recommended addition amount: 1~5%, used as a mild O/W emulsifier or fragrance solubilizer, with broad compatibility and low skin irritation.

Precautions

  • MOA-9 is irritating to skin and eyes (H315/H319). Wear chemical protective gloves and goggles when handling, and avoid direct contact.
  • The product has a cloud point of 55~65°C. Above this temperature, it may precipitate and become turbid in aqueous solution. Pay attention to this characteristic when designing high-temperature processes.
  • Harmful to aquatic life with long-lasting effects (H412). Do not discharge directly into water bodies or sewers without treatment.
  • Avoid extreme high temperatures or freezing during storage (solidification point 5~10°C). It may turn into a paste at low temperatures. Before use, warm to room temperature and mix thoroughly; this does not affect product performance.
  • For specific safety operation, please refer to the Safety Data Sheet (SDS).
