MOA-9 (AEO-9) is a nonionic surfactant with an HLB value of 13.6. It is easily soluble in water and can be directly added to the aqueous phase and stirred to dissolve at room temperature. If the product becomes paste-like or solidified due to low temperature (solidification point approximately 5~10°C), preheat it with warm water (30~50°C) and stir evenly before use to restore its flow state, without the need for special pre-mixing equipment. Thanks to its good chemical stability, MOA-9 can be used normally in dilute acids, dilute alkalis, and hard water media, and has excellent compatibility, allowing it to be compounded with anionic, cationic, and other nonionic surfactants in any proportion.
In various formulations, MOA-9 mainly performs four functions: emulsification, wetting and penetration, dispersion, and cleaning. When used as the primary emulsifier, the recommended dosage is 5% to 10% of the oil phase weight; when used as an auxiliary surfactant or synergistic component, the dosage can be reduced to 1% to 5%. In textile pretreatment scouring agents, the dosage is generally 2 to 8 g\/L (working solution concentration); in leveling agents, the dosage is 0.5 to 3 g\/L. In industrial cleaning agent formulations, the recommended addition amount is 5% to 15%; in household liquid detergents, it is usually 3% to 10%. In practical applications, it is recommended to determine the optimal dosage through small-scale experiments to achieve the best balance of performance and cost.
It is particularly noteworthy that the cloud point of MOA-9 is 55~65°C (1% aqueous solution). When the operating temperature approaches or exceeds the cloud point, the product will precipitate from the aqueous solution and become turbid, significantly reducing its emulsifying and cleaning efficiency. Therefore, in processes requiring high-temperature treatment (such as high-temperature dyeing, hot alkali scouring), it is recommended to compound it with high-cloud-point, heat-resistant surfactants, or control the process temperature to not exceed 50°C to fully leverage its performance. MOA-9 is a low-foaming product, particularly suitable for spray cleaning, machine washing, and circulating water systems that require low foam.

Compounding for Synergy: Compounding MOA-9 with anionic surfactants (such as LAS, AES, SDS) can significantly improve the hard water resistance and detergency of the formulation. The recommended ratio of anionic to nonionic is between 3:1 and 6:1. When compounding with cationic surfactants, it is recommended to dissolve separately before mixing to avoid direct contact that may cause precipitation.
Emulsification Operation Suggestions: For emulsifying pesticide emulsifiable concentrates or mineral oils, it is recommended to use the phase inversion emulsification method—first mix MOA-9 evenly with the oil phase components, then slowly add water under stirring until a uniform emulsion forms, then add the remaining water. This method yields finer droplet size and better stability.
Dissolution and Dilution: When preparing high-concentration stock solutions (10%~20%), it is recommended to add MOA-9 while stirring in warm water at 40~50°C, then dilute to the desired concentration after complete dissolution to avoid local gelation affecting dissolution speed.
